SATURDAY EVENING CONVERSATIONS - Author Joe Kipling

AUTHOR JOE KIPLING

Welcome to my first official SEC author interview. As with my one other author blog tour interview, I had JOE KlIPLING choose ten questions from Vanity Fair's version of the PROUST QUESTIONNAIRE; with the eleventh question being my choice of their life's motto. I chose this author for today's interview in honor of her participation in the first UK INDIE LITERARY FESTIVAL, which was held earlier today.
Joe Kipling is the author of BLINDED BY THE LIGHT, and LIGHT THE WAY, the first two books in her unique dystopic trilogy set in the UK, THE UNION TRILOGY. You can read my review of BLINDED BY THE LIGHT: HERE. Which reminds me that I need to get off my butt and get LIGHT THE WAY reviewed here on the blog, too. I also did an interview with two of her book characters: HERE
And now for the questionnaire!

What is your most marked characteristic? I talk a lot. A LOT. Like all the time (even in my sleep).

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? Impatience. I know that people the world over think that we Brits like to queue…. but this girl definitely does not queue, EVER.

L.L. This was an example she once shared on Facebook. Heh heh.

What is the trait you most deplore in others? Bigotry and racism . . . don’t try and include me in your messed up hate filled life.

What is your favorite journey? I spent a month in Mongolia . . flipping amazing.

L.L. In response to an online quiz that decided my most fitting vacation spot was on a steppe in a yurt (I am still scratching my head on that one because I am a solid seashore person) , Joe told me about her experience with drinking salted yak's milk during her Mongolian adventure. Not wanting to be rude she choked down the entire cup which was in turn refilled to the brim. She did not know emptying the cup meant you wanted more! I also found out she tumbled off a runaway camel and I am sorely disappointed there is no video of this event.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse? 'For crying out loud,’ usually yelled at the top of my voice.

What is your greatest regret? That my mum died before I had my first book published.

What is your current state of mind? Sunburnt (kids, always wear sunscreen).

If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be? That they didn’t live so close hahaha. I’m joking, I’m joking. My family are perfect just the way they are.

What is your most treasured possession? I have two treasured items; a photo of me and my dad taken when I was 9 or 10 (he died when I was 13 so its the only picture I have of us both together) and a cameo ring I inherited from my mum.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery? living in fear of people and cultures who are different.

What is the quality you most like in a man? A good appetite, a fear of the gym and a sense of humour.

What is your motto? Live your dreams, don’t dream your life.
