THE SUNDAY POST #54

THE SUNDAY POST is a weekly wrap-up feature hosted by Kimba at the CAFFEINATED BOOK REVIEWER.

This is a tad late today because yesterday while spring cleaning I accidentally poked myself in the eye with a scrub brush (thank goodness I was using baking and water and not bleach). I must have scratched my eye, so blogging and social media have been slow for me today. I might not get to everyone's posts today, but I will by tomorrow! I have been listening to ARCs via text-to-speech.

The quick version...

Remember when I said not to read my Wattpad serialization, HIDDEN MAGIC, on the app because the edits that were made had not been showing up in the text? Well, I went to check to see if the app had updated the story and I saw that there were now entire paragraphs missing! I contacted WP, but there is no one in their tech department on weekends, so I have unpublished the story until they fix the problems. I don't understand what could be going on because the desktop version is fine.
A bunch of us were high-fiving on Twitter when we got this in an email from Goodreads. That is... until I did the math and with there being more than 20 million users on GR, this meant we were about one in 200,000 reviewers. Heh heh. But still being in the top one percent is nice.

AMAZON EBOOK DEALS
My first Cozy Mystery purchase. A thank-you to Laura, from FUONLYKNEW, for the heads up in her Sunday Post freebie section. I have been curious about them because Katherine from I WISH I LIVED IN A LIBRARY is always talking about cozy mysteries  But, shhhhh... don't tell my sister; she will never let me live it down because I don't read mysteries.

I have wanted this cookbook/memoir since I first saw it in Barnes and Noble! But physical cookbooks are soooooo expensive! I checked and it is still a $1.99 deal today.

99 CENTS
I have had this ebook for a while from when it was  on sale for  $3.99. I love this restaurant!

PHYSICAL COPIES
Unsolicited from Harlequin
It was a very nice thick paged coloring book by a street artist. I gave it to my son's girlfriend, Mandy, whom I keep calling, Molly! I am so bad. I need to give her a nickname.
I adored this children's counting book!

I saw this on twitter...
Redhair with BLACK EYEBROWS! I had to get the opinion of some fellow redheads on Twitter, so I tagged Heather from RANDOM REDHEADED RAMBLINGS and Ginger from GINGER READER.  I also wanted to know if this was a new "thing". They both liked it, but I say nay! I would be staring at her eyebrows the entire time. Heather put it up for a vote on her The Sunday Post, too.

Litha Nelle is celebrating her 2nd blogversary with a GIVEAWAY!

Beverly Cleary turned 100 years old today (and she is still alive). Sebastian adored her mouse books.
I don't quite get why her promo picture is in her bedroom though.

I love this, but am I the only person who remembers percolated (perked) coffee? I cannot find a link to this exact style, which just happens to be the one I want. Ugh. *big frowny face* If anyone comes across this one will you let me know? Here is the link to one that is close.

  1. Thanks for sharing my giveaway, La La! I can't believe Beverly Cleary is 100- how great for her! My brother and I read her books as well. Congrats on being in the top 1% of GR reviewers- I always seem to forget to share my reviews there, unless someone on there takes an interest in my opinion of a certain book. Someday I'll get caught up!

    1. I mini-review every book on GR because I don't review books I rate less than 4 stars here on the blog. Plus, it makes it easier for cross feedbacking on Edelweiss and Netgakkey because I just copy and paste them; which is what I do with Amazon and B&N, too. Congrats on you blogversary again!

  2. Yikes sorry to hear about your eye! Hope you're feeling better soon. I'm on my desktop at the moment so reading your story should be fine hopefully. I need to set up a Wattpad account. And I hope you enjoy the cozy- I've tried a few of those they can be fun.

LOL about the eyebrow thing. I saw that over at Heather's and laughed- you guys! Crack me up.

    1. We have some fun times on Twitter, too. It isn't all trauma. Ha ha! I am looking forward to reading the cozy. Maybe I will get my sister to read it and we can do a double review!

  3. I got the 1% thing but didn't do the math... but I did suspect the numbers were big!

I did see the eyebrow comment on Heather's blog and suggested perhaps it depended on the tone or lightness/darkness of your red hair as to what eyebrow colour looked good!

PS. Hope your eye is okay!

    1. I Googled "redhead with black eyebrows" and it must be a thing because it came up before I was f0done typing it. Moist of the images were women with dyed red hair. It still looked funny to me! Ha ha. :)

  4. My eyes hurt just thinking about that run in with the scrub brush! Ouch! I'm so excited about you trying a cozy! I haven't read that one so I'm curious to see what you think of it! I like the eyebrows! I have reddish hair with eyebrows that are about the same color and I'd like them to be a little darker to look a little more distinctive. Have a great week!

    1. Nope, nopey, nope, nope... you guys are not going to convince me of the eyebrow thing. Ha ha! I guess that book is a series of related short stories. It said to think of television episodes in a season. I just talked to my sister and forgot to tell her to get it so we could review it together. I will have to remember when we go shopping in Wednesday. :)

  5. Sorry about your eye! That had to hurt! I hope it feels better now.

That's weird about WattPad! I hope they help you solve the problem today!
On the photo with red hair and black eyebrows... I think it looks nice. I'm jealous, because I'm ginger, and my eyebrows have NO pigment at all! Can't even see them! haha

    1. I have the redhair invisible eyebrow, too. Heh heh. I have never done eyebrow pencil because even the lightest brown always looked weird to me! My eye is a bit better, but I am not going to work today. I am going to contiue with ice packs and listening to ARCs via text-to-speech. :)

    2. I am a redhead as well with very light eyebrows...almost blond. When I get my make up done, they always try to color in my eyebrows and I think it looks weird. Maybe I just have weird eyebrows. Ha! The redhair/dark eyebrow picture you posted didn't bother me, probably because she had very dark roots and her eyebrows matched that. But if she had bright red hair with dark eyebrows that would be a no go for me as well.

    3. I am with you on the eyebrows. I always thought they looked weird on me, too! :)

  6. Yep. I got that Goodreads button too. Sorry about all the trouble with your story. Hope it gets sorted out. Your cookbooks are making me drool! I hope the eye is feeling better. My oldest scratched my cornea when she was an infant and oh man it was painful!

    1. Thanks! I had it happen once before when my dog bonked me in the eye with her nose. I guess I am lucky it has only happened twice in my life. :)

  7. Hey, it IS still nice to be in the 1 percent and you're one up on me because I am NOT. haha granted, I haven't used Goodreads all that much until recently.

I saw Heather's post about red hair and dark eyebrows! I actually think it looks nice, but I can see how some people wouldn't be able to pull it off all the way.

    1. I use Goodreads a lot because I don't review books I rate less than four stars on my blog. I also use these shorter reviews for cross-posting to EW, NG, B&N and Amazon. Kind of like one stop shopping! :)

  8. Look sweetie, red hair and black eyebrows is a thing, it is happening and you cant stop it - cue evil cackle!!!!!

Hope you eye is ok, I am bad at hurting myself on inanimate objects such as the coffee jar I opened this morning and as for perking coffee, my coffee machine at home which I can't be arsed using most of the time because it is too much hassle is indeed perky!!

Have a great week, I'm off to do my eyebrows!

    1. Well, I am going to frown upon the red hair and black eyebrows as if they were a return to plaid elephant bellbottom pants! Ha ha. My aunt was the last person I knew who used a percolator. Just before Christmas last year I saw a post about how that was supposed to be the next "thing" in coffee makers again, but then never saw it mentioned after that. I guess it was wishful thinking in their part. :)

  9. Well, I didn't get that GR e-mail, so I guess I'm not even in that 1% either... oh well!!

Cleaning is a danger to body integrity, I knew it! ;)

    1. Are you sure it didn't go to your spam folder? Yes, cleaning is dangerous and a hazard to reading! :)
