TELL ME TUESDAY #79

TELL ME TUESDAY is a floating feature, depending on your reading style, where you tell us what you are reading now, and why, and what you will be reading in the future from your tbr pile, and why. I am oh so curious why people read what they read. So tell me!

GOODREADS
I am reading a Netgalley ARC of Cogling. It is a YA steampunkish fairytale about a clockwork boy changling.  I was loving it and I was about 20% in, so I thought it was safe to read the synopsis. NOT! It gave a HUGE SPOILER! So now, although the story is written wonderfully, I am lukewarm reading it. If you plan on reading this book, and you should, DO NOT READ THE SYNOPSIS!

I am buddy reading this with Pili from IN LOVE WITH HANDMADE. It's Adult Fantasy/SciFi/Psychedelia. It is deep, dense, and daunting. Octavia, from READ.SLEEP.REPEAT., sent me the physical ARC she recieved about two years ago. I started reading it a little while later, but after 60 pages I needed a brain break. Ha ha! I re-read the beginning, and it was a much faster read the second time through, but once I hit the new pages I started slowing way down again. It is going to be a book that needs to be powered through, thought about, and then reread for full impact. We are buddy reading this for our ROCK MY TBR CHALLENGE.

My next ARC
This pubs February 2nd. First of all the Edelweiss page had no synopsis, so I had no clue it was a YA Western Fantasy. I hate Westerns. Oh well, at least it is Fantasy.
What are you reading? Tell me!

  1. I need to pick up our buddy book again because yesterday I spent the whole day doing chores and then writing reviews! And I agree, it's a dense book that needs to be read slowly, hopefully it'll be one of those rewarding reads in the end!

    1. I am loving it. It reminds me of the books I used to read when I was at university. Which reminds me another book I took a break from was The Goldfinch, and I need to finish reading that one, too. :)

  2. I hate when synopsis give away a big plot point or make the book sound like something it isn't by talking up something that was only a small part of the book. I love the cover of Cogling and hope you're able to still enjoy it.
I'm in a cozy mystery reading mood lately and have been gobbling them up. You mentioned that you weren't sure what a cozy was in a comment on my blog. It's a sub-genre and tends to be a mystery that is low on graphic violence and not explicit. The detective is usually female and tends to be amateur though I've read several that are PIs or investigative journalists. The victim tends to be a really dis-likable character and they tend to have gimmicks like home restoration, cooking, or sewing and will frequently have tips or recipes in the back. Think updated Murder She Wrote in book form and you have the basic feel. Hope that helps!

    1. Thanks, I kept seeing that term around, and my sister mentioned them a couple of times but her explanation left me scratching my head and thinking they were a brand. Ha ha. Yeah, I don't read the GR synopsis before I start reading a book I because I am one of those people who like to be totally in the dark other than genre, sub genre. I have never been spoiled by a synopsis after 20% before! One of my fave authors said I might be wrong and there might be another even bigger twist, but I doubt it. I had been asking her if I should email the author. :)

  3. Hi! I am re-reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. My boss couldn't believe I could read anything more than 10 times. My last reread was in 2010 and I've been itching to do another for awhile. The movies are nice, but I miss the finer details like Peeves and Professor Binns. And now I am trying to learn more about dear Severus.

I'm also reading The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifveiter. It's on my nook and I've been without my book book a few places, but had my nook. Seems pretty interesting so far.

  5. I got a little chuckle out of your dismay of discovering your book was a western. It reminded me of Fred Savage's reaction in The Princess Bride..."Is this a kissing book?" I hope you can still enjoy it!

    1. I don't know what it is about Western anything: books, movies, TV shows, clothes, music; I hate it all. :)
