THE SUNDAY POST #26

THE SUNDAY POST is a weekly feature hosted by Kimba at the Caffinated Book Reviewer. It is a chance to recap the previous week, share news, showcase books and/or bookish things we have received, and tell about what is coming up on our blog in the next week. You can view the guidelines, HERE.

THIS LAST WEEK
When October publishing dates turn out to be September pubs. YIKES!

Characters I didn't click with. Ha!

Saturday was my TWO YEAR BLOGVERSARY (see how neatly Cait from PAPER FURY put and end to the BLOGOVERSARY VS BLOGIVERSERY debate), but the holiday weekend has eaten up all of my extra blogging time.
But no worries... I will have a celebration post up next Saturday with an INTERNATIONAL GIVEAWAY! And guinea pigs, lots and lots of guinea pigs.
One thing I realized in looking for guinea pig gifs on Pinterest... too many people think G PIGGIES and hamsters are the same things.

AROUND THE WEB

Aimee needs your help on DEADLY DARLINGS! She has a school project about DIVERSITY and is asking for any and all to fill out her survey questionnaire. I did it and it was quick and painless,

JKR tweeted about it being James Sirius Potter's first trip to Hogwarts on the train, September 1st. You can read an article about what his first day might look like now in the current School for Witchcraft and WizardryHERE.

BOOKISH STUFF
MY READING SLUMP IS FINALLY OVER! What broke it? DUMPLIN'. Yep, a YA Contemporary ( and it even had romance) which I hardly ever read. I could not put it down and read it all in two sittings in less than 24 hours. It was a five star rating for me on Goodreads, but it will be a 4.5 here on the blog because the story could have been perfect issue-related YA if the one character who was thinking about having sex would have also been discussing birth control, and disease protection, as well as what styles of lingerie were appropriate for her "first time". One big plus for this book in my eyes was that the descriptions of high school were realistic. Sometimes I think authors who write YA stories, which take place in American high schools, were home schooled and had no clue. Which is bad because it paints a false picture of US school environments. I once read a book by a British author about a girl who transferred from the US to a UK boarding school. At the end of the day a villager asked her how her first day of school went, and she said she was unhinged because she was used to not doing anything all day at her American high school. That is the kind damage those unrealistic portrayals do. Anyway, two thumbs up to Julie Murphy for writing believable characters living in a realistic environment!
Btw, it is being made into a movie.

NEXT WEEK
MONDAY REVIEW? If I do, it will be DUMPLIN' while I am still jazzed about it.
TELL ME TUESDAY
THURSDAY TAG: The Magic and Sorcery tag. It is this month's L.L. & A. tag (the L.L. is not me).
TOP FIVE FRIDAY: Finished series I have yet to finish.
SOMETIMES SATURDAY: Two year blogversary celebration with INTERNATIONAL GIVEAWAY!
THE SUNDAY POST

And this GIVEAWAY is still going on...

Have a marvelous week!

  1. I love the cover of Dumplin'!

And I've been caught with that publication date thing too - when a publisher's said 'September' but means late August! (etc)

  5. Wow. Happy Two years! Time flies. I just love all of your gifs. Even the title of your blog makes me smile! I used to have seven guinea pigs and they are nothing like hamsters. I loved them. They each had such individual personalities and were just so darn cute. LOL

  6. YAY! So glad you liked Dumplin'! I have it on hold at the library already since it is getting good reviews.

And speaking of people not knowing the differences between guinea pigs and hamsters, do you remember the Dramatic Hamster/chipmunk meme? Um, guys...that is not a hamster...or a chipmunk. http://gph.is/1qkXF1q

  9. That comment about not doing anything at her American high school would've unhinged me a bit too! I do love when YA books actually sound like the characters are teenagers! It's always amazing what book snaps us out of a rut. It's very rarely one we'd expect. Have a great week!

  11. Congrats on the 2 years Linda!!
I filled out the survey and it made me realize I haven't read very many books with characters of the same race as me (biracial - African american and Caucasian) and I looked up tons which took about an hour or so. I've only read one. ONE. I'm disappointed in myself and how hard it is to find them.

    I hope you're having a good week!
