THE SUNDAY POST #49

THE SUNDAY POST is a weekly wrap-up feature hosted by Kimba at the Caffinated Book Reviewer.
It is a chance to recap the previous week, share news, showcase books and/or bookish things we have received, and tell about what is coming up on our blog in the next week. You can view the guidelines, HERE.

MONDAY
Because I have so many ARCs this month I could only pledge four books, but any books off my gigantic TBR is a plus.
I have already finished one!

Also on Monday, I answered friendship questions about Saffron and Fig, and I added the Hidden Magic snippet I had posted earlier on author MR Graham's blog for her weekly feature TUESDAY TEASER.
TMT
I tell you why I didn't care for THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE and that my next two ARCs are Middle Grade.

I give you my top five Adult Fiction standalone recommendations.

SATURDAY

LIBRARY
After stalking Edelweiss, where all of the author's other ARCs were offered, for months, I found out for some reason they had offered this ARC on Netgalley during my requesting ban last year, and I never saw it. I then tried to trade for it and entered about ten contests for it to no avail. So I borrowed it from the library.

WON
Well, actually, Eileen from BOOK CAT PIN's cat Ripple (see my Ripple Fan Club button on the book) won this book for me. There was a Jacob Tibbs lookalike contest, to win a hardcover copy of the book, so I told Eileen she should enter Ripple's photo. She did, and he won!  She had them send the book to me. That was so nice of her.

PURCHASED EBOOKS
There is a group of authors I am friendly with and I am trying to read at least one book from each of them. This was my latest add.

During the week of Dr. Seuss's birthday the Seuss interactive book apps are always on half price sale for $1.99. Last year I bought ten for babysitting because with each one I bought I got Amazon coins and I finagled it so I purchased 10 book apps for $8.00! This year they didn't offer the coins, so I only bought two: THE SLEEP BOOK and I HAD TROUBLE IN GETTING TO SOLLA SOLLEW. These apps are wonderful. It is like getting the ebook, audiobook, and a learn-to-read app rolled into one because the app has a mode for each one. Seeing that the ebooks alone are $7.99 - $9.99, even the full price of $3.99 is a bargain. Here is a YouTube video of the learn-to-read mode.

THE SUNDAY POST

I have also joined a three week blogging event.
So many book bloggers on Twitter were talking about having zero motivation last month that Rachel, from BEAUTY AND THE BOOKSHELF, came up with the idea of this extravaganza. It starts Wednesday March 8th and runs for three weeks. There are three prompts a week, Monday-Wednesday-Friday, but you don't have to do them all. Each day's post will have a Linky, so we can all blog hop and motivate each other. You can view all the details: HERE.
Have a Splendiferousness week!

  1. The Dr. Seuss apps are wonderful! I have a few of those and a few Sandra Boynton books that are similar format. The 10 for $8 definitely sounds like a good deal but the 2 you got this year both sound good. I Had Trouble in Getting Solla Sollew is one of my favorites. You've got some fun stuff coming up. The Blog Extravaganza sounds really fun! I've been meaning to email you and hopefully it will happen this week about the children's books. That sounds like lots of fun!

    1. I also got a Boynton app that was free last week. I had forgotten all about that! Yay on doing a guest post on my Children's blog. I will be looking forward to it. :)

  2. That is a pretty good lookalike! Cute cat. Sorry that The Girl from Everywhere was a bit disappoiting- hope the next two MG's are better. It's funny when I browse the bookstore there are a lot of nice looking MG books out there- so many now! And I'm totally into covers so they do make stop and page through.

Have an awesome week and a good weekend. :)

    1. A lot of the MGs I have read lately have been geared more toward YA readers. I am finding that a pattern with a good deal if YA being like NA, and MG being like YA. It is like they think as long as the MC is within the age limits they can write anything they want. At first it was only indies I was seeing this with, but there have been bigger publishing houses offering up some "too mature" MG and YA lately.

  3. Aw saddness that you didn't like The Girl From Everywhere. *sniffles* But I mean, not every book is for everyone, so I UNDERSTAND. :) I also reeeally want to read something of Lauren DeStefano's someday because she's so hysterically wonderful on twitter. :')

    1. I really like Lauren's books, but her Twitter persona gets to me and I periodically have to take a vacation from her. Hehe. The Chemical Garden trilogy was good straight through for me, but although loving the first Internment Chronicles book, I really didn't like the second one. It was too predictable and very uncharacteristically to the story she added a popular mythical creature. Ugh. Ha ha.

  4. The Dr. Seuss apps sound wonderful! My little sister's having a baby so I may have to start looking into these in a bit!
I think I'll do the extravaganza too - or some of the prompts at least. It looks so much fun!

  6. Thanks for posting the video for the Dr.Suess app. I need that for my youngest. That blogging slump blogging thing looks fun. I wish I would have known about it earlier. I have only got two books read for the TBR challenge. I need to finish my review for the second one.

    1. You can link up with the extravaganza at any time because each post has its own Linky. There was no intro post required, either. And, yes, the Seuss apps are fabulous. :)

  7. Boo to not liking The Girl From Everywhere, but I can definitely see how it's not for everyone. I'm also participating in Rachel's challenge this month, I'm so excited to see everyone's posts!!

    1. I still gave TGRE three stars. Ha ha. Not too bad for a debut. Yay for the extravaganza! I am stoked to see everyone's posts, too. :)

  8. Aww, it's too bad you didn't like The Girl From Everywhere, I really loved that book! Also, that story about Eileen winning the book for you with Ripple's photo is so cute! Eileen is such a sweetheart and I'm simply in love with Ripple, I'm convinced that he should go into cat modeling because he's the most gorgeous cat that ever lived. I also have that Ripple button, and I love it! Wonderful post! ^_^

    1. I really want a dog, but we would have to move first and my cat would not be pleased with either of those decisions. Heh.
