TELL ME TUESDAY #77

TELL ME TUESDAY is a feature that oozed from my post Twitter party fried brains. It is a floating feature (depending on your reading style), where you tell us what you are reading now, and why, and what you will be reading in the future from your tbr pile, and why. I am oh so curious why people read what they read. So tell me!

Joining us this week...
Shannon from REX ROBOT REVIEWS.
Go have a peek at their grabs and tell them yours!

I finished my buddy read with Pili last night. To tell you the truth, I was kind of disappointed. I am glad I read A Darker Shade of Magic first because I probably would not have read any more V. S. Schwab. Although the premise was wonderful, and would have tricked me into reading about superheroes and liking it, I found the story weak and full of holes. You can read my Goodreads mini-review: HERE. This counted toward both my COYER Challenge and the Rock My TBR Challenge.

I have been schlogging through this book for almost a month now. It pubbed on January 6th, so it isn't even an ARC anymore. It's still making me twitch and wince. At one point it lapsed into 50 Shades of Grey with blindfolds and leather straps. This is a YA story for goodness sake! I put the book down again for about the 29th time when the MC, who is supposed to be uber-smart, said that she only uses stereotypes when, "... they are appropriate." When are stereotypes ever appropriate? I hate it when authors have intelligent characters say things like this. *twitch* *twitch*

I cannot believe I am finally reading this! One of my resolutions was to make time for "me reads" this year, and I am. I finished the prologue this morning and so far it is quintessential Maggie.  When I was retrieving the Goodreads link I saw it is still a $1.99 ebook if you are interested.
What are you reading? Tell me!

  1. Aweee, I'm sorry to hear that Vicious didn't work too well for you, I really enjoyed it!

    1. Yeah, there were just too many things left totally unexplained, and not in a "it will be revealed in the next book" kind of way. When writing fantasy in a real-world setting it still has to be plausible in our demension on Earth.

  2. AHHH I SO HOPE YOU LIKE THE SCORPIO RACES. *dances happily* That was my first Stiefvater book so kinda my favourite? Just because it started me on reading her gorgeous writing and I neeeever looked back. omg. :') OH and I agree Firsts was interesting. Like, I thought it was good? But then I thought the protagonist was an idiot. I mean, the whole premise is her justifying her doing this "good thing" but she's cheating and the boyfriends are cheating and idek how anyone can POSSIBLY get into their brain that it's gonna work out okay. erm. No. -_-

    1. My biggest problem with Firsts is that it really is NOT YA! It is NA written with a character that is just shy of being a NA character in college. More Happy Than Not and Simon Vs both had sex scenes in them (and for a reason), but they were written in a way that the reader would visualize what they already knew and understood. This book slaps you with sexual details, for at this point in the book no reason at all. I keep expecting there will be a huge message supporting reason in the end, but from reading others reviews (even the good ones) I can now pretty much assume there isn't one. :P

    2. Scorpio Races was my first Stiefvater too! And therefore, also kind of my favorite. I KNEW it was Firsts that you were talking about!

  3. I'm so glad you are reading The Scorpio Races! And oh my god you are the BEST for finding ebook deals! I'm heading over now to buy this. I pretty much want to own this book in every format (I have a thing where if it's a book I want to reread I need it in ebook and hardcover so that I can read it no matter where I am when the urge hits haha)

    1. And adding the narration was only $2.99 (yes!!!!!). This ranks in one of my favourite books for audio so I'm super excited about this!! Now all I need to do is buy the hardcover and I will have everything I need in life. I can't tell you how excited I am about this, and it was just timed well for an overall stressful day today. Oooh maybe I'll listen to this and take a bath. Or make reeds and listen to it. THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS.

    2. Ha ha ha, you are killing me! Thanks for the chuckle. I felt pretty much the same way when Sebastian brought out the rest of his Christmas chocolate a few minutes ago and gave it to me because he is sick of chocolate for awhile. Enjoy your audiobook!

I heard some pretty bad things about Firsts, so I'm not sure if I'll ever read it.
