TELL ME TUESDAY #57

TELL ME TUESDAY is a feature that oozed from my post Twitter party fried-brains. It is a weekly, or bi-weekly feature (depending on your reading style), where you tell us what you are reading now, and why, and what you will be reading in the future from your tbr pile, and why. I am oh so curious why people read what they read. So tell me!

I did accomplish one thing I PROMISED myself in last Tuesday's, ending my reading slump, TMT. I finished listening to my Oz audiobook collection of 14 Oz books, and 8 short stories based on Oz characters by Baum. I did not try my kickstarting trick of listening to the first chapter of my SUNBOLT ebook with text-to-speech; I just wasn't in the mood. I did prepare to start my audiobook re"read" of WICKED.

However, when searching for it on my broken Kindle keyboard model, the one with a screen that only shows the very bottom of the page (I have to listen to the beginning of each book to know which one it is), I stumbled across my audiobook combo of Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass.
And got sucked in.
After listening for awhile, I realized I have never "READ" Alice in Wonderland.
I had a record of the book, with songs inserted, of a British stage musical, and I listened to it about 100 times between the ages of 8 and 11 years old. I was given a collectors' edition book in a slipcase for my 13th birthday, by my cousin. I have cherished it all of these years, but have never read it. I did try to read it with my son when he was in elementary school, but he didn't like it. I don't think we made it past the first chapter.
However at this point, after a month without reading the printed word, any bookish activity will put a smile on my face.

Hopefully Alice will lead me to physically READING a book!

Do you consider listening to audiobooks reading?

  1. My post is up! My daughter ended up with a horrible ear infection and we had to take her to urgent care last night, which disrupted my planned blogging.

Anyways, Alice in Wonderland - nice! I feel like that's a nice segway from Wizard of Oz. :)

  2. UM HECK YES AUDIO BOOKS ARE READING! I mean what else would it be?? I consider being a well-read bookworm with all the books my mum used to read to me when I was a small stir fry. Bestest memories. :') Ahhh that's so cool you finally read Alice though! I LOVE THAT BOOK. I prefer the Looking Glass one, but still...I need reread them someday.

    1. I never likened listening to audiobooks to being read to. Yes, it is the same thing and therefore reading. I guess I always feel like I am cheating on the book by doing other activities while I listen. Hopefully I will have a grandchild who will let me read to them from my physical copy one day. :)

  3. Audiobooks is another form of reading of course! One that I don't usually have a lot of luck with, but a form of reading nonetheless!! I plan to get better at audiobook listening now once I move to my apartment so it'll help me get through the chores and the cleaning! ;)

    1. You can get so much multi tasking done, Pili! I know you can also download books to an iPod, but I haven't looked into it yet. Right now I am stuck listening when I have 'stay in one place' chores, but if I could load some on my iPod, the listening while working possibilities would be endless. My sister hardly physically reads at all anymore, She loves her audiobooks. :)
