OCTOBER READING WRAP-UP
TIDBITS
TELL ME TUESDAY is a floating feature, depending on your reading style, where you tell us what you read last, what you are reading now, what you will be reading next from your tbr pile, and why. I am curious why people read what they read, so tell me!

SERIES #1
GHOSTS
Published 1954 - Hoopla Borrow
This is a little dated in the way the author sometimes uses wordy, almost poetic, descriptors, but it's an enjoyable read in small sittings. It would make a wonderful spooky season family read-aloud chapter a night story.

ADULT FICTION
SEQUEL TO THE SHINING
PARANORMAL HORROR
SUBSTANCE ABUSE/MENTAL HEALTH
Published 2013 - Overdrive Library Borrow
After drudging through this story (for me the only great parts were Danny's brave fight with, and insights on alcoholism) the climax was as dry as a popcorn fart. It went out with a whimper without nary a bang in sight. I have officially deemed this book a waste of my time. I should have watched the movie instead. All I wanted to know is what happened to Danny and his mother after The Shining ended.

Also there was the overall theme of teenagers being eye-rolly, perpetually unhappy and distant creatures who keep scary secrets, like drinking, from their parents; and that this starts around twelve years of age. They also all swear constantly. It's really time authors stop fortifying these erroneous stereotypes. King also says don't share your similar experiences with teenagers because they don't want to hear them, and need to grow up on their own terms. What? Parents are irrelevant now? His characterizations of women in this book were dreadful, even the good ones.

Published November 2016 - Kindle Unlimited Borrow
I'm reading this in preparation for writing my blog post on why I chose to boycott this first Fantastic Beasts movie for its colonialist viewpoints, and its misappropriation of Native American culture and spiritual/religious beliefs. November is National Native American Heritage Month.

SCIENCE FICTION
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Published May 2017 - Own Ebook
This is my first book for November Sci-Fi Month. I have collected the ebooks as they have gone on sale for $1.99 because I feel ebook novellas shouldn't cost the same as a full length novel. I don't have the newest sixth book, yet, because I refuse to pay $12 for a 172 page ebook novella. I don't get how anyone finds that acceptable. Becky Chambers has started doing this, too. It's insulting to me.
