TELL ME TUESDAY is a floating feature, depending on your reading style, where you tell us what you read last, what you are reading now, what you will be reading next from your tbr pile, and why. I am curious why people read what they read, so tell me!

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE - ROBOTS
NOVELLA
Published May 2017 - Own Ebook
This was my first book for November Sci-Fi Month, and I was more than a tad disappointed. Read my review if you'd like to know why. However, if you are a Martha Wells fan, don't despair. I liked the next two books in the series!

I know this is a novella and it's more difficult to build meaningful character interaction, but she managed in the back-half of the story, and wasted a lot of the first half on overly describing mundane environments. However, the big thing that disappointed me was the plant science. It was obvious she did not research plants. There were a couple of incorrect, I will call them assumptions, about Earth plants... and she also said one plant they found had no comparison on Earth, but it does: Ghost Pipe. Then came the final blow to my Becky Chambers love and respect. I was listening to my ebook with text-to-speech while eating and it went on to the acknowledgments... she said she writes off-the-cuff and the only reason her planetary descriptions are plausible is her mother is an Astrobiologist and it's easy to call her and ask about things like atmospheres and gravitational forces. For me Science Fiction needs to be workable and plausible within the parameters which are set up for a fictional planet, and its flora and fauna; and unless an author is already an expert, that means doing research. There's no excuse with Google and the internet available. I'm a bit heartbroken.

MIDDLE GRADE
SERIES #1
SCIENCE FICTION
ROBOTS - NATURE
Published April 2016 - Own Ebook
This book is a weird hybrid of a beginner reader chapter book and a Middle Grade novel. At first I was thinking it was great because precocious readers from about 5-7, maybe eight years old would have a book that would somewhat challenge them reading-wise, but still be in their conceptual and emotional maturity range; that is until all the death started... descriptive death, and violent death. Then there was the issue of the author not resesrching her wildlife "facts;" a huge pet peeve of mine. When it comes to science, history and cultures authors need to do their homework, even for picture books! I don't know how it won so many awards. This book will count for both Sci-Fi Month and the Let Us Read Middle Grade Challenge.

I'm reading this in preparation for writing my blog post on why I chose to boycott this first Fantastic Beasts movie for its colonialist viewpoints, and its misappropriation of Native American culture and spiritual/religious beliefs. November is National Native American Heritage Month.

I saw a review for this book on my blogging buddy Liis's Cover to Cover blog, and when I went to add it to Goodreads I saw that it was available on Kindle Unlimited, so I decided to squeeze it in for Sci-Fi Month. It's a quick read at 124 pages.

I guess they have changed the art style. Ugh. If it's the style they used for some backstory in the last volume, no sir... I didn't like it. I'll deal with it, though, because I am fully and forever in love with these characters.

After watching the new movie the Manchild decided he wanted to re-read Dune (it's his third time reading it), because he didn't like the way the movie characterized Jessica, and he wanted to determine just how much of Duke Leto's story had been cut out. He almost convinced me to re-read it with him (it would be my fifth or sixth time reading it), but I'm sticking to my plan to re-read the third book, Children of Dune, this month. We have been having some great conversations about it, though. Aside from the cinematography, he hated the movie. Heh. I haven't seen it yet.

Malala Yousafzai, author of I Am Malala, is wed. See the beautiful photos: HERE.

No write in votes? They also combined picture books and Middle Grade, so there are less chances in each of those categories. Dumb.

There are three book bundle giveaways up on the page!
