TFF is based on TOP TEN TUESDAY by The Broke and the Bookish. I always frown in a defeated manner when trying to come up with ten answers for TTT, so...

MY TOP 5 FUTURTISTIC SETTINGS

Arakis is the planet the Dune books take place on. It is covered with desertland and has monstrous sandworms!
2.
Mars like you have never imagined it. Martians with sand ships. Hmm... sand again.

SILENT RUNNING
Okay, I am cheating a bit on this one. It is not a book, but it it my favorite Science Fiction film of all time! It has a spaceship with a giant geodesic-domed green house, and cute little helper droids.
I am not going to give you the link to any information because I want EVERYONE to watch this movie with no spoilers, and if you have already seen it you don't need anyinfo. Ha ha.
I don't read a huge amount of science fiction but I LOVE Hitchhiker's Guide! You really can't beat a depressed robot!
ReplyDeleteI read it back in the 80s and I need to read it again. After looking for quotes I realized how much of the story I had forgotten. I am also wondering why so many of the synopsi said the robot was paranoid, I never got that feeling while reading it, so I went with my own thought of depressed. Maybe if I re-read it I will see the paranoid thing. I don't know. :)
DeleteI don't tend to reach for Sci-Fi, but then I usually really enjoy it when I do. My favorite subgenre is usually space, as opposed to like, science. Haha.
ReplyDeleteI lean toward space, too, but I do like sciencey things if they are well founded in science. :)
DeleteSilent Runnings? why have I never see that!!!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to read Dune but I would love to travel the universe with Arthur Dent and Marvin!
It is almost weird to call HGttU a Science Fiction story, it is more like a comedy. Ha ha.
