TELL ME TUESDAY is a floating feature, depending on your reading style, where you tell us what you read last, what you are reading now, what you will be reading in the future from your tbr pile, and why. I am oh so curious why people read what they read. So tell me!

FIVE STARS
I adored this story set in I970s Alaska. This counted towards my COYER, Rock My TBR, and NG/EW challenges.
NOW
This was pretty dry in the beginning, but around 25% when they get to Hawaii it picks up. The writing is simplistic which isn't my cup of tea, but it is holding my interest for now.
Pili from IN LOVE WITH HANDMADE and I are still doing our buddy read of THORN. It is a retelling of The Goose Girl Fairytale. This is a reread for me. I rated it FIVE STARS on Goodreads.
NEXT
I started reading the Oz books to my son when he was six and I had to do quite a bit of pre-reading and censoring because they were very violent. I had read the first seven, or so, when I was staying at my aunt's one summer because she had the entire series in hardcover for her children. I think I was nine or ten when I read them, but had no recollection of the violence (and racism in the later books), so I was happy my son lost interest during the third book. Last year I purchased the entire audiobook collection with an Audible credit and listened to them all. I felt it was a shame that the stories were so violent and racist because Baum was a champion of strong female characters, and Princess Ozma of Oz was once a boy. Shannon from REX ROBOT REVIEWS posted that she had started reading The Wizard of Oz to her five year old daughter Kaylee (who is my Kookies and Milk feature reviewer on my children's book blog), at one point last year, and I had warned her about the problems I had found with the stories. I said I wished someone would revise them and make them more appropriate for this day and age. I saw this book on Netgalley yesterday as a Read Now; it is the first story retold from Toto's POV. Shannon and I have both downloaded it and are going to do a tandem review of it on TICKLING DRAGONS.
Ths is my next ARC. It is a Middle Grade from Edelweiss and publishes on the 24th.
What are you reading? Tell me!
I'm glad you liked Thorn! It looks interesting. Thanks for the heads up about Wizard of Oz! I've been wanting to read it and since the Tornado and I are doing chapter books at bedtime I thought that might be a good one. I'll definitely be reading it myself first.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping this Toto book is good, and if it is I am going to encourage her to write more of them! Please let me know how you feel about the first Oz book if you read it because at some point I am going to fo a blog post about the series. :)
DeleteOoh, I hope you don't have too bad of a time with The Girl From Everywhere. *quietly hugs that book* XD It does get a bit draggy in the middle though?? BUT YEAH. LITTLE DRAGONS AND KASH. <3 I'm actually between books right now and deciding on what to read next. Eeeep! Probably Storyspinner or Truthwitch next!
ReplyDeleteI really want to read Truthwitch now that people have started reviewing it. I wasn't interested at first because I thought oh it's just another YA book about fantasy witches, but this one sounds fresh. :)
DeleteI owe you for advertising Thorn when it was .99 cents. It was a 4.5 star read for me, and I'm usually so grumpy about YA fantasy- it just depends on the book! I think I prefer indie reads for certain genres, like YA and romance- that way, there's more author freedom as far as subjects and plot.
ReplyDeleteIt's not Tuesday, but I can't decide what to read next- I just know it'll be a paper book. There's so many on my shelves to choose from. :)

I love indie authors, too! They are my thing. I haven't read a physical copy of a book in so long, but I borrowed A Curious Case Of the In-Between from the library a couple of days ago, so I guess that void will be broken soon. :)
DeleteOh I have Thorn in my tbr pile too, so glad it was good!!
ReplyDeleteI loved it! It is a standslone, but I have the first book in a trilogy that she is writing to read. :)
DeleteI finally read Thorn!! And I LOVED. IT. So much. I will absolutely be reading anything Intisar writes from here on out (and luckily I still have that novella of hers to read). I now must do much book pushing since I know she's an Indie author and I need her to have money so she can write more haha!
ReplyDeleteYes! Push those fabulous indies! I have a cover reveal for her second book in the Sunbolt series tomorrow. :)
