A YEAR OF ONE BOOK A WEEK

With the exception of a couple of ARCs, my annual re-read of A Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve, and my annual Kurt Vonnegut buddy read with my son, I kept to my challenge of reading all Black and indigenous North American authors.

In 2021 I read 103 books (28,173 pages), but I wanted to enjoy other activities in 2022, so I set a goal of reading one book a week. I was only three books off that goal with fifty-five. Do I plan on continuing this schedule? Yes! Well not a strict schedule, but I plan to continue to listen to music instead of audiobooks when I go for walks, and only listen to audiobooks or ebooks with text-to-speech when I'm eating. I might sneak in some listening when I'm doing activities like folding laundry or doing my nails, but I must admit I've been calmer not constantly listening to books.

What did I do with that extra time?
I baked a lot more. I tried making yeast bread for the first time with focaccia bread, it's ridiculously easy and now I love making it regularly! I also baked a lot more cookies and tried a few new varieties. I played with the cat more. Part of my original plan was to play guitar more, but due to shoulder problems for the last few months that didn't happen. I did however start playing penny whistle (tin whistle) again after years and years, and had forgotten how much fun it was. I bought a cheaper whistle not knowing if I would be that into it now, but I'm ready to spring for a professional model. Here is a video if you don't know what a tin whistle is. I call them penny whistles because that's what my grandmother, who introduced them to me, called it.
I chose this player's video because it shows what a tin whistle really sounds like. All the other videos I found had effects added to the whistle to make it sound more like an uilleann bagpipe. It's a whistle it should sound like a whistle!
