THE MONTHLY MOSH & GIVEAWAY - May 2017 Edition

MAY 2017 EDITION
READING WRAP-UP
STACKING THE SHELVES #12
$10.00 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway
I have changed this feature's title from The Monthly Mash to The Monthly Mosh. It fits my personality better because I used to mosh at Thrash shows, and I certainly am not a Hipster. It seems like blogging has become more like moshing than mashing as of late. Ha ha. Anyway, this is still a books and reading only wrap-up post with a link to STACKING THE SHELVES from Tynga's Reviews.

The giveaway this time is a $10.00 Amazon gift card, instead of $5, because I so busy all I could manage was a mini-post last month without a giveaway.

BOUGHT EBOOKS
It's a collection of African American folktales. It was $1.99.

I bought this for $1.99 on a Thursday and I was approved for an ARC of the sequel on a Friday. Ha!

Horror with an autistic MC. I hope they handled the characterization correctly. It was 99¢.

I have six Gaiman now and I have read zero of them. I really want to read The Graveyard Book, but it seems it never goes on sale. This title was $1.99, but I found it it is a sequel.

This bundle of three brings my Butler total to ten books. It was $1.99.

It was $1.99.

I bought this FULL PRICE! Can you believe it? That is how much I love the Tiffany Aching arc of the Discworld series. I bought A Hat Full Of Sky at full price, too

I follow the author on Twitter and he is a great guy. I have wanted to read one of his books forever, but they never seemed to go on sale. It was 99¢.

EBOOKS
Another addition to my Hoffman collection. It was $1.99.

I bought the first book not too long ago. I hope I didn't pay more than 99¢ for it, ha ha. I also thought these were the only books, but I see there is one, maybe two, more? The bundle was only $1.99.

I read this from the library sometime around 2001-5. All I can remember is that I read it at our old apartment and I really enjoyed it. If I remember correctly it has quite a few personal photos in it. It was written by her son. I was talking about it with Elizabeth from SO LONG... & Thanks For All The Fish a couple of years ago, but I cannot remember what I was telling her about it. It was $1.99.

Jolene from JO'S BOOK BLOG has been crowing about this book since she read it, so I had to get it as it was on sale for $1.99.

My Alice Hoffman collection keeps growing! It was $2.99.

This story is about a group of teenagers in an assisted living facility for people with disabilities. It was $1.99.

My buddy Elizabeth is a rabid Tamora Pierce fan and has talked about these books on her blog many times. I have two Pierce books now. It was 99¢.

EBOOKS
This is one of the Adult Fiction books the author of A Wrinkle In Time wrote. It is a dark love story. Although the Goodreads synopsis makes it sound more like an obsession. Heh. It was $1.99.

Another L' Engle book, but this one is a memoire. It was $1.99.

It is the second installment in a series of short stories about Sherlock Holme's younger sister Morrigan, by my favorite vampire author (she writes about vampires, she is not one herself, ha ha). It is saying something that she has got me reading a mystery story. These e-stories are 99¢.

ADULT FICTION
DUOLOGY BOOK ONE
SCIENCE FICTION
I saw a fabulous review for this book on someone's blog a couple of years ago, sorry to whomever it was because I cannot remember where. And if I am not mistaken there was a little flurry of activity around it last year, too; was there a reissue with new covers? Anyway... I have wanted to read it and was happy to see it on sale for $1.99.

ADULT? YA?
SERIES BOOK ONE
MYSTERY
PARANORMAL
HISTORICAL
I saw this on a release day blitz on Pili's blog, IN LOVE WITH HANDMADE, last year. I loved the synopsis and was thrilled to see it for free. I also got the pre-order of e sequel for $1.99.

It was $1.99, but it is full price now.

GOODREADS

NETGALLEY
Heather from RANDOM REDHEADED RAMBLINGS reviewed this SciFi, HERE, and it made me run to Netgalley to request it. I am happy I was approved.

I saw this highlighted in the Netgalley newsletter: SciFi/Fantasy/Dystopian mash up with LGBTQ elements, pivoting around the power of language. Well, hello, give it to me... and they did. *big smile* A lot of people were hating on it on Goodreads for being too weird, so I am almost guaranteed to like it. Ha ha.

MIDDLE GRADE
SERIES #1
This was a "Wish For It" and I was surprised I got it because Disney Hyperion has declined me for every title I have requested from them on Netgalley, and there have been quite a few. It publishes in September.

This book has been out for a while, so I don't know why it's on Netgalley (maybe a paperback re-issue?), but it's Alice Hoffman, so I'll take it!

YOUNG ADULT
STANDALONE
FANTASY
How could I pass up a book with that title? And this cover... Metal rules! It publishes July 11th

MIDDLE GRADE
SERIES #1
FANTASY
I adored the original cover; this one not so much. *frowny face* It publishes September 5th.

BOUGHT LIBRARY BOOK SALE
The SPIDERWICK TROLL TROUBLE is a small paperback short story. It was in a cellophane wrapper, but it made the book impossible to photograph, and I want to read it anyway, so I took it off. This probably destroyed its collectability. Ha ha. It was 25¢.
▪ ▪ ▪
I read JONATHAN LIVINGSTON SEAGULL in the early 70s it was one of my high school group of friends' pass around paperbacks. The book made a big impression on me back then, and I was happy to find a hardcover first edition with an intact jacket for $1.00. Then I opened it up and saw this...
"Happy Anniversary Love, Sean - December 12, 1972"
My immediate thought was how did this book come to be given away? I would love to have a book with an inscription like this from a relative. Even if it was my mother and father who were divorced. It would be a reminder that they did love each other at one point. I don't normally buy personalized books, but I knew I had to give this one a home. I was surprised to see how many Goodreads reviewers didn't get this story. It isn't about "special snowflakes" and the religious interpretation is only one layer of this book. I re-read it in the wee hours of Sunday morning, during the read-a-thon, and I realized even more meanings than before.

BLOGGING FOR BOOKS
This is an anthology of true stories about facing the unknown. I had to have it for my bookshelves. It was too pretty to pass up! I love the cloud overlay on my photo editor.

I am going to try a little something different this time:

1. GO to my FACEBOOK PAGE.

2. LIKE and COMMENT ON this FACEBOOK POST. Comment anything... even a smiley face will do!

I will have my son give me an up/down direction and a number for choosing my winner from the comments. Easy peasy!

$10.00 AMAZON GIFT CARD
This is INTERNATIONAL if you can use a US gift card. GOOD LUCK!
I will select the winner on August 1st!
