TAG YOU'RE IT!
I had been seeing this tag running around the book blogosphere and was thinking I might tag myself, but Annemieke from A DANCE WITH BOOKS was a fab friend and tagged me! You can see her freakout: HERE.

BEST BOOK SO FAR THIS YEAR
MY GOODREADS REVIEW
ADULT FICTION
SERIES #1
SCIENCE FICTION
DIVERSE / ISSUE RELATED
I would like to thank Greg from BOOK HAVEN for continuing to post about how fabulous this story was until I just had to read it. This is not only my favorite book so far this year, but possibly my favorite book in the last few years. It's that good.
BEST SEQUEL READ SO FAR IN 2017
Annemieke from A DANCE WITH BOOKS and I buddy read this fourth book in the Tiffany Aching DISCWORLD arc, as we have all the Tiffany books except for the first one. We will be reading THE SHEPHERD'S CROWN together this month. We are waiting for my lovely hardcover to arrive.
A NEW RELEASE I NEED TO READ
GOODREADS
ADULT FICTION
SERIES #3
PARANORMAL
VAMPIRES
My favorite vampire series, but alas, my personal reads get put on the back burner. I would have loved to have gotten a review copy of this.
MOST ANTICIPATED FOR THE SECOND HALF OF 2017
GOODREADS
ADULT FICTION
PREQUEL
MAGICAL REALISM
HISTORICAL
This is a prequel to PRACTICAL MAGIC. I was excited about getting an ARC, and really had no doubt that I would get one because I had been approved for all of the Netgalley e-copies I have requested for Hoffman titles. I had been haunting both Netgalley and Edelweiss, so I could request right away. However, I was sent a decline email and was told it was either because of my stats (when I requested it my monthly hits were around 8,000), or I was an infrequent blogger, which most certainly couldn't be the reason. As usual they said to update my Netgalley profile. The funny thing was this one said, "... and re-request," which was odd because you cannot re-request on Netgalley. I then saw it listed on Edelweiss and re-requested there (with a courteous note about the NG re-request), but it has been sitting in limbo for two months.
Then comments from other bloggers started popping up on Hoffman's Facebook page. It sounded like no one got approved, yet they have been handing them out like candy in random contests to non-bloggers. This has kind of put a sour taste in my mouth about it, so I will probably wait and get it from the library. I would say until It goes on ebook special, but Practical Magic never does, so I doubt this one will either. Review copies are the one thing that makes up for all the time, work, and money we put into our blogs; yet some authors and publishers make us beg for them and still deny. *sighs*
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
MIDDLE GRADE / CHILDREN'S CHAPTER BOOK
COMPANION BOOK
FANTASY / GROSS-OUT
ISSUE RELATED
This was a gross-out Middle Grade aimed at girls, instead of boys, and it was wonderful until the ending. The climax was stupid and over reaching, and the finale fell flat. The last 20% of the story was so bad it ruined the entire book.
BIGGEST SURPRISE
ADULT FICTION
MEMOIR
ISSUE RELATED
I thought this was going to be just a heartwarming girl and her dog story, but it was so much more and resonated with me on many levels. I want to thank Jolene from JO'S BOOK BLOG for bringing this book to my attention.
FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR
FAVORITE NEW CRUSH
"Not so long ago, in the back of a dryer very much like yours, three buttons, a pluck of wool, and a ball of lint bumped into each other so hard they didn't come apart. They wiggled and twitched, and soon Lint Boy was born."
FAVORITE NEW CHARACTERS
All the characters aboard the Wayfarer, but especially Dr. Chef the grum chef and doctor aboard the ship.
A BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY
I may have misted a few times, but I don't remember specifics. Ha ha.
A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY
I adored this book! I think it is supposed to be a Children's chapter book, but the adult (grown up, not mature) content would get a little boring for the kiddies, I think, but it is a funny whimsical story I am sure all adult cat lovers will like. It had wonderful illustrations, too.
MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK BOUGHT THIS YEAR
I only need the second book in the series to have all five in hardcover sitting on my shelf.
WHAT BOOK DO YOU NEED TO READ BEFORE NEXT YEAR?
The sequel to The Long Way To a Small Angry Planet, of course!
I tag you!
