TELL ME TUESDAY #75

TELL ME TUESDAY is a feature that oozed from my post Twitter party fried brains. It is a floating feature (depending on your reading style), where you tell us what you are reading now, and why, and what you will be reading in the future from your tbr pile, and why. I am oh so curious why people read what they read. So tell me!

♦♦♦♦♦♦♦
MORE HAPPY THAN NOT slumped a little near the middle, but the last half of the book more than made up for it! At 59 years old I am a little jaded when it comes to sad endings, but this story made me cry. I think every older teenager should read it. I am glad I made sure I read it before the end of the year so that I can feature it in all of my wrap-up posts. It is my second COYER Challenge book.

♦♦♦
I was loving INKED. The storyline is fresh. I read some reviews where it was said the book tanked in the backhalf, but I was hoping that wasn't going to be true for me. However, I am only in about 15% and this character shows up with only a first name for a  description, and it is as if we are supposed to know who he is, and I don't have a clue. One of my biggest reading pet peeves is having to go back and search for a character description. Also, these Citadel guards suddenly appear out of nowhere in this little village like they were always there, with no explaination why. Ugh. I have to finish this one because after taking two more picture books off my Goodreads list (that I missed before), I went one below my 104 goal; AGAIN! It will be my third COYER Challenge title. It has to be this one because I will not be finishing, Illuminae.

♦♦♦
ILLUMINAE and I are not playing well together. The beginning reads like a screenplay for a second rate made for TV movie. I was in agony trying to read it. When I asked on Twitter and Goodreads if the beginning seemed slow for anyone else, most of the responses were yes, but they gave it five stars anyway because of the unique formatting. Well, I read and rate books on the quality of the story and writing, so that won't be the case with me. Cait from PAPER FURY said it gets super sauce good after the first 200 pages, but no matter how sparkling and chorus-of-angels singing great it gets after 200 PAGES (That is a book in itself, almost), having to read that many pages of muck will make it a three star review. I just saw that Cait rated it three stars. I will finish it, just not before the year is out.

For my next read I will be going back to FIRSTS; the Netgalley ARC that was making me *twitch* *twitch* *twitch* it pubs on January 6th.

And... if you want to gaze further into my future of book reading, here are my 2016 challenges.

GOODREADS: I am going to set the same goal as this year, two a week = 104.

1. COYER CHALLENGE
2. ROCK MY TBR CHALLENGE
3. RE-READ CHALLENGE
4. DIVERSE READS CHALLENGE
5. NETGALLEY & EDELWEISS CHALLENGE
GAH! That is five challenges! I thought I only had four! *wrings hands with dismay* I have Pili from IN LOVE WITH HANDMADE to thank for most of these. *squinty side eyes*
What are you reading? Tell me!

  1. I've been wanting to read More Happy Than Not for quite some time. I'll have to check it out soon!

Also, don't worry! I've tried reading Illuminae but quit after 89 pages.. I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll try it again one day!

Currently I'm reading Captive Prince, which is really good but depicts some very mature topics, definitely an adult book!

    1. I am happy I am finding so many people who are not madly in love with Illuminae. I don't feel so bad any more. Ha ha. I have not heard of Captive Prince I will have to check it out on Goodreads. :)

  2. Whoopsie!! Sowwy!! If it makes you feel any better I am also at 5 challenges myself!!

I loved Illuminae from beginning to end... From the moment I started reading it reminded me of Battlestar Galactica and I simply was hooked from the very beginning!

  3. I finally had to decide on absolutely no challenges this year because last year I said I would only do a couple and then ended up with 6 and was lousy at keeping up with any of them. I'm going to retrain myself this year and then try again! You've got a lot of books going. I'm sorry to hear Illuminae isn't cooperating. I know so many people love it which for me sometimes makes it harder to get into a book especially if I don't love it immediately. I'm finishing up a few books that I've got 50 or so pages left so I can start fresh on New Year's Day.

    1. I am looking forward to a fresh start on New Years, too. I think I am going to do blogging resolutions instead of personal resolutions this year. :)

  4. Yes! It sounds like our experience with More Happy Than Not was pretty similar! I was definitely starting to go...well...this is actually kind of boring...why is everyone going on about this book again? And then that ending starts and oh my god I bawled. Like...I do cry pretty easily, but it's more of a teary eyes sort of thing, not losing my head sort of thing. This definitely fell into the losing my head category haha!

    1. I know! I do not write spoilery reviews, but I think More Happy Than Not has to be!
