LAST WEEK'S TMT

REALISTIC CONTEMPORARY
ISSUE RELATED
FAMILY/FRIENDSHIP/MENTAL HEALTH
Published January 7th 2020 - NetGalley
My main problem with this book were the untrue visitation rules about the kids legally having to go to the non-custodial parents every other weekend until they were eighteen. This is not true in Pennsylvania (or in the US from what I read) where this story takes place. The child can ask not to go at any age, and a judge will consider the case, but fourteen is the age in PA where the legal system says it's okay for the child to choose not to go with very little question, and this decision has no affect on child support, or alimony payments. When a story is Realistic Contemporary I feel it should be realistic. These made up "rules" were used for cheesy eye-rolling drama bombs. Also the one mother's mental health problem about being home alone every other weekend made no sense because both boys went to school all week, and their visitations could have been staggered so one of them was home with her every weekend. Also, this book was way too long for what it was. There was lots of filler in the first half. The pluses were big pluses, though: a budding teen romance with no sex, the word "wanna" only showed up once in 400+ pages, it showed how the father isn't always the villain in a divorce or separation, and that no one is responsible for the mental health of another at the expense of their own, not even adults. And finally... a YA author who wrote intelligent teenage punning and humorous banter! The teens felt real in this story, not written to a trope or formula. *There was a forced physical contact scene, so heads up to those sensitive to that type of content.

ADULT FICTION
PERN SERIES BOOK ONE
FANTASY
Published 1968 - Owned Ebook
I am reading all classics fifty plus years old in 2020, and biographies about the authors (except for the Discworld reading challenge I'm participating in). Seeing that January is my dragon themed month I thought I would re-read the first three of The Dragon Riders of Pern series, but this first one is the only one that is fifty plus years old! I will also be re-reading the biography of the author written by her son.

GOODREADS
Yes, he ditched Priory of the Orange Tree again, but says he'll keep it on his bookshelf for emergencies and will finish it someday, ha ha. His friend bought him this seventh Dresden Files book, as well as 8-10, but he blazes through these books, so he'll probably get to the book I bought him for Christmas Eve soon.

HOSTED BY
MY TOP TEN MOST ANTICIPATED 2020 RELEASES

OCTOBER 2020
There is no cover image available, yet. I'm wondering if there will be different US and UK versions?

FALL 2020
This is a collection of original fairytales based on the Hazel Wood dulology. I didn't love the second book like I did the first one because there was very little fairytale involvement in it. This companion book full of the Hinterland should be just what I'm craving!

MARCH 2020
This title was originally a self-pub which I loved so much I have read it four or five times. It's now been picked up by Harper Teen and has almost doubled in size after editing, so I get to read it again as a review book! I am hyper excited to see what changes and additions were made!

OCTOBER 2020
Kitsune (Mirror World #4) is more of an anticipated read for my son, than for myself, because I'm reading all classics this year and won't be binging the series until next year. Baz has loved the first three books and is eager for this one to release.

APRIL 2020
I can read this for my Year of Classics!

MAY 2020
A new paperback edition. I am going to be buying some of the more famous classics in paperback for my reads and re-reads, so I can annotate them; and then I am going to tie the stack up with ribbon and put it on top of my bedroom book cabinet to remind me of my 2020 classics challenge!

MARCH 2020
"Whether you're looking for a new author or genre to explore, 30-Second Literature provides you with summaries of the major literary genres, styles and histories." - Goodreads. Another new book I can read this year!

APRIL 2020
I need this lovely cover for my collection!

A Jane Eyre graphic novel!

There are some stellar contests up on the Facebook giveaway page right now. Some are multiple book prizes. Most from major publishers!
