I was getting kind of slumpy because of all the holiday card and letter writing, so I decided to take a semi-break and read a Middle Grade, that reads more like a Children's chapter book, to rest my brain. It is an Edelweiss ARC that publishes in March. The story is cute, but it was really slow to start; it took almost 50% of the book to get going. This always worries me about MG and Children's chapter books because kids will usually drop a book like a hot potato if it doesn't grab them quickly. I am in the last 25% and it isn't a very long book so I should be finished today. It has charming illustrations and reminds me of the Redwall books. In fact it would be great for children too young for the Redwall books.

I am definitely reading UNWIND next.

And after that I was thinking that it would probably be a good idea to read ILLUMINAE before the year is out so I can include it in my 2015 wrap up posts.
What are you reading? Tell me!
YES UNWIND MWAHAHAHAHAHAH!
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, as soon as I saw the cover for Brambleheart I was like...wow that reminds me of Redwall haha!
And on a sidenote - hey look at me posting a comment on something that isn't a month old!
Ha ha, I know! I had to look twice because it didn't say moderation for being over a week old. You get a gold star. :)
DeleteYAY for reading Illuminae!! I do hope you'll love it as much as I did!
ReplyDeleteIt gets extra points from me already because of the unique formatting. I don't think I have seen one bad review yet! :)
DeleteI'm interested to see what you think about Illuminae. I LOVED the unique formatting. I'm totally a suck for that. Buuuutttt....I really feel like I've read the story before. In fact a lot of it really reminded me of Serenity (the Firefly movie). So I was a little disappointed by that.
DeleteI read a book a while ago that reminded me of an anime I used ton watch. I, bizarrely, have never watched Firefly television or the movie, even though everyone who knows me said I would love it. I kind of know the movie plot and I have read the synopsis for Illuminae, and yeah, I can see what you are saying. Great point.
DeleteI love middle grade books, but I agree they should be engaging from the start. Some of them are so short that if they take a while to get going, nothing will ever happen!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Illuminae yet. I won a copy in a giveaway and am waiting for it to arrive
Yay, your comment finally posted! I love MGs, too. There have been a lot of goid ones this year. :)
