TELL ME TUESDAY #381 - Last. Now. Next. - June Reading Wrap-Up #AmReading #BookGiveaways
LAST. NOW. NEXT.
NUMBER THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-TWO
TIDBITS
TELL ME TUESDAY is a floating feature, depending on your reading style, where you tell us what you read last, what you are reading now, what you will be reading next from your tbr pile, and why. I am curious why people read what they read, so tell me!
Oh Blogger, what's up with the echoed date above my post header?
2022 A YEAR OF BLACK AND NATIVE AMERICAN AUTHORS
★
"YOUNG ADULT"
STANDALONE
PARANORMAL - HORROR
Published June 28th 2022 - NetGalley ARC
This is YA and the MF word was used twice, along with a liberal sprinkling of s#its and f(iretr)ucks throughout. There was also a very VERY vulgar statement made about male genitalia, and there was a bachelorette party scene where phallic straws and headwear were discussed. Obscenities and vulgarities are not edgy, authors need to stop making teens think it's cool. They are just normalizing disrespectful behavior. I hate it. Both groups of high school students acted and lived their lives like college students, so why not add a year to their ages and make them college students instead of publishing it as inappropriate Young Adult content? There was also lot of drinking and it was normalized. It was very similar in many ways to Ninth House, which was published as NA/Adult Fiction. Plus, the writing was atrocious. I loved The Hazel Wood. It's like a different author wrote this book. She kept using the word "tart" to mean sharp: a tart circle of light, and her daughter had a tart mind (as in sharp mind). Where was the copy editor? Light and brains aren't cheese.

HISTORY
NEW YORK CITY
Published 1979 - Own Ebook
This is the second book for my Summer in the City blog theme. Every August I read titles set in NYC. This book is not only about the history of The Dakota building (where John Lennon was shot) it's full of esoteric stories and facts about the entire city. I'm loving it. Edelweiss didn't even have a decent cover image for this book. Why?!

Publishes October 11th 2022 - Edelweiss ARC
I opened Edelweiss to see if I could find a better resolution book cover image for Life at the Dakota, and I saw that I had ten notifications, so I opened my messages and there was this eARC looking at me on the very top. Look at that cover art! Also, it's Adult Fiction! Yay! It's not set in NYC, but August is Women in Science Fiction/Fantasy Month... I guess? I kept seeing it talked about on Bookstagram, but I just hopped over there and no one is talking about it anymore, ha ha. It's by a Black author, so that's really all that matters. Thank you Tor publishing! I had no clue this book existed.
