✯ MY THOUGHTS
It was the year of Adult Fiction standalones! I read more MG than YA, and almost as many Nonfiction books as YA. I have found myself moving away from Young Adult because it has been flooded with so many mediocre offerings in the last couple of years. I have been wanting to read more Nonfiction and I think I did well with that. I also read some Historical Fiction for a change. I wish I had read a few more Own Voices titles, but most of my books were at least diverse and/or issue related; which also goes to show you can find diversity outside of Realistic Contemporary. I also read less review books and did more personal reading, and that felt good because I have wanted to start reading more for my own pleasure.
BEST IN BOOKS

Best Books Read in 2019

ADULT FICTION
GOODREADS
A story with a diverse message so finely woven into the plot you can recommend it to readers who run from issue related books and they will probably be none the wiser. Ha ha. The teen/senior citizen friendship kicked it up a notch to top title for me this year.

GOODREADS
A squeaky close second place. Historical Fiction about Nazi over-run Europe with a sprinkle of magic.

YOUNG ADULT
GOODREADS
As with Acevedo's first book, The Poet X, I highly recommend the author narrated audiobook.

MIDDLE GRADE
GOODREADS
This was difficult because I read so many great MGs this year! Another young person and senior citizen friendship that ticked it to top billing for me.

GOODREADS
Another super close second place.

The Book Which Disappointed
A Middle Grade with too much disturbingly graphic violence; much of it gun violence. Please children's authors let kids be kids.

The Book Which Surprised Me
I don't usually care for Women's Fiction, but I adored this one. It's about book lovers and books with a tiny mystery woven in.

My Personal Favorite Blog Post This Year
THE HOBBIT
BY J.R.R. TOLKIEN

My Most Liked Bookstagram Photo
This was my first post to go over 50 likes in 12 hours, so I was hoping it would be my first photo to get 100 likes, but sadly it stalled out at 80. After four months it's at 83 likes.

My Best Bookish Moment
I was lucky to reconnect with Melissa Anelli, the founder of The Leaky Cauldron.org website, in a Facebook group celebrating the tenth anniversary of her book Harry, a History. At one time there was a social site connected to TLC called MyLeaky, and she remembered me as a devoted member and content contributor, so she sent me her last well-loved and tatty author's copy thanking me for my past support of her endeavors. She also sent me a pass for the Boston LeakyCon, but I couldn't use it so I gave it to Peter, The Potter Collector. He used it well. *wink wink* Ha ha!

Most Challenging Bookish Happening
The passing of Grace from REBEL MOMMY READS hit our corner of the bookish community hard. I had saved her last Twitter photo because she had been moved out of the ICU and was tweeting about going home soon, and I was going to be adding it to my monthly wrap-up post, but she passed away later that day. I left her picture in my Kindle photo album, and I see it almost daily when I am scrolling looking for images I've saved to use on the blog. It reminds me to be thankful for every breath I take even when life is a struggle. My heart breaks for her children every time I see it.

Grace had a gentle heart and a sunny disposition. I will miss her signature Kindle lap photos.

On October 14th every year we are going to #ReadForGrace by reading a book from her TBR, or her best loved books list. You can find those lists: HERE. Please mark your calendars.

My Most Popular Post
The SHERBET LEMON EDITION of my Harry Potter chat feature, Enormous Purple Megaphone, has gotten 4,313 views since June sixth 2019, and the views keep on coming. The Sorting Hat edition I posted in September has almost 2,000 views. The HP themed posts have been the most popular on my blog for the last two years. The 2019 Back To Hogwarts post has almost 3,000 views!

Post I Wish received A Little More Love
I don't do very many special standalone posts, or reviews, so I will go with when I add Top Ten Tuesday to my weekly Tell Me Tuesday posts: link up, blog hop the linky, and comment on 30+ TTTs and only get one or two extra commenters, besides my regular visitors. That's why I don't bother very often; it's not worth the extra work. It also hurts my feelings when I see blogs I commented on commenting on the other TTT posts I am visiting, but not on mine. *sniffles*

Best Bookish Discovery
HOOPLA
If your library subscribes sign up! It's streaming so no waitlists and there are also movies, music, and television shows. This is NOT the same thing as Overdrive and the Overdrive app, Libby. Your library uses Overdrive download services to send their own ebook and audiobook inventory, but Hoopla is extra content and many libraries, like mine, have both!

LOOKING AHEAD

I cannot answer most of the questions in this segment because as many of you know I'm reading all pre-1970s classics next year with the exception of: biographies and memoirs of the authors, my Harry Potter re-reads, and a Discworld reading challenge.

I am still going to have my usual monthly blog themes...
JANUARY - Dragons
FEBRUARY - Black History Month
MARCH - Women's History Month
APRIL - Diversity
MAY - Health/Mental Health
JUNE - Classics (this won't be difficult, ha ha)
JULY - Summer in the City (books set in NYC)
AUGUST - Dog Days of Summer (dog books)
SEPTEMBER - Wizards and Witches (in place of HP books)
OCTOBER - Classic Monsters and Hauntings
NOVEMBER - Science Fiction
DECEMBER - Fantasy

MY WEEKLY SCHEDULE

2020 CHALLENGES
So far the only ones set in stone are A Dance With Books DISCWORLD CHALLENGE, and Book Roast's N.E.W.T. Exam Challenge.

Have a wonderful new year, my friends!
