THE SUNDAY POST #17

THE SUNDAY POST is a weekly feature hosted by Kimba at the Caffinated Book Reviewer. It is a chance to recap the previous week, share news, showcase books and/or bookish things we have received, and tell about what is coming up on our blog in the next week. You can view the guidelines, HERE

THIS WEEK

There was a TELL ME TUESDAY on deck.

You can read that post, HERE.

I did THE UNPOPULAR OPINIONS TAG on Thursday.

IN REAL LIFE

My son informed me on Thursday night that he...

1. Is changing his major at university and will have three more semesters instead of one. It also means he will be losing a large major-specific scholarship he has.

2. Wants to take a year off to work.

Then I found out the reason for #2 is because he has squandered the last year's worth of his his college trust fund, and has only about $200 left in his account!

DEALS

GATES OF THREAD AND STONE was my top YA book for 2014 and its sequel, THE INFINITE, is one of my favorite reads so far this year!

Six Reasons I Unfollowed Your Blog by Amber at THE MILE LONG BOOKSHELF.

The Amazon book reviews scandal on FORBES.

More fishiness surrounding Harper Lee's "other novel" via Paste magazine.

NEXT WEEK

Two reviews. I hope.

Have a fantastic week!

  1. Oh no!!! You sound kinda calm about your son's news. Are you? Or are you still simmering? Ah kids... you gotta love 'em!

On a happier note I found this FB page - Sweatpants & Coffee. I love it. The memes are both inspiration and funny. I don't drink coffee but I drink a lot of diet coke, so I can seriously relate!

    1. I will have to check out Sweatpants and Coffee because when I am at home it's yoga pants and coffee 98% of the time. I guess I am lucky that, in his 23 years, this is the first time I have had a reason to be truly furious with my son. :)

  2. I'm mad for you about your son. Though I've been there, done that. Sigh.

Here's my Sunday Post! Stop by and throw your name in the hat to win a finished hardback of Eight Hundred Grapes and a coffee mug!

  3. Sorry to hear about your son's situation- the young do things sometimes (I know I did, LOL). Hang in there, this shall pass. :) The Infinite looks good, I don't know about it but looks intriguing...

    1. Thanks, I pulled a one semester hijinx once, too, but it didn't involve large sums of money. Ha! I would describe Gates of Thread and Stone as Fantasy/Dystopian. It is very unique. :)

  4. Oh I feel your pain with the college age son!! At least he's trying to replenish his account but I'm pretty sure I'd want to just put my head in my hands for awhile. This age is a whole new kind of challenge! Have a great week and good luck!

    1. Thanks! I was blindsided because he has always been responsible with money. This is why I never checked his account. I guess everyone is entitled to one college age mess up. :/

  5. Eeek, sorry to hear about your son, I suppose we all make mistakes with money from time to time. My is usually with books and cloths I don't read or wear. Thank goodness for Pusheen and the showing of emotion through wonderful pics!

    Have a great week!

  6. Oh dear, not good news about your son. :O I think my parents would be pretty wrathful if any of we kids did something like that. >_> BUT YEAH. Ahem. I hope things work out and don't stay too tense.
SO MANY CUTE KITTEN GIFS THO.
    I CANNOT EVEN.
    *wishes for a kitten*
Although my dog would totally eat it but still.

    1. Yeah, kitties are wonderful, but I like them equally to dogs. Get a scrappy cat like my Atticus and there will be no cat eating going on. Lol. :)

  7. Oh crap!! Well, I do hope things will work out for the best with Sebastian, but hey... at least he wants to work and pay for his education too, so that's good that he's not going all irresponsible!

    *squishes*

As usual, I love all the pusheen gifs!!

    1. I had one flub up in college where I let my grades slip because of a boy. *hangs head in shame* and I lost a scholarship, but the amount of that scholarship, and his scholarship and last trust fund payout is like ramen noodles compared to a steak and lobster dinner. Lol. But I am still trying to be understanding.

  8. College does something to people...if you don't make at least one highly questionable decision in your time in college you've somehow managed the impossible. I'm pretty sure I baffled my mom when I decided three days into my second semester of my 2nd year I was like 'nope. I'm going home. I don't have time or patience for this anymore.' I also turned down a scholarship to the college I really wanted to go to because I felt it was sort of...stupid. I'm biracial, and they gave me the multicultural scholarship. I was baffled...like am I really that different from all your other students? I don't even look biracial, I'm paler than more white people...I don't even live any differently than anyone else. I've never been overly comfortable with using my minority status for anything. My mom was like 'wtf?', lol.

Hopefully he can get everytime straightened out.

    1. My son's great-grandfather is African American and he is so white he is almost luminous. I had a college mess up, but it was grades and not money. Lol.
