I have caught up a bit with my TMT backlog, but it was at the cost of not getting a Hello May post published, so is that really getting caught up in the long run?

This was a nice quick read for younger Middle Grade aged readers. I liked how it tackled the losing a best friend to another friend group topic; which is a pretty common thing in elementary school. This would have been 4.5 stars if not for a couple of currently frowned upon terms used that I thought were already considered not appropriate descriptors in 2012.

This was my third book for Asian-American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. It had dual contemporary/historical timelines. The ending basically killed the entire book for me.

I am having a difficult time getting into this one, so I've only been reading it here and there. It's a good thing it doesn't publish until the end of September.

June is Caribbean-American Heritage Month, so I'll be reading at least two books by Caribbean authors during the month. I have been participating in the Carib-A-Thon read-a-thon since its inception seven years ago. It spans ten days in June. I don't have the specific dates for this year, yet, but I will let you know as so as I do.
Well... this was written by a close college chum who managed to make enemies of everyone in our friend group, including me, except for his now wife. He back-stabbed, lied, and didn't pay back borrowed money. I was lucky I was always short of cash at that time and only loaned him twenty dollars, once. He also never paid me back for the roll of film I shot for him so he could hand in a photography assignment that was due while he was sitting in a Georgia jail for speeding. Yes, I'm being petty but he deserves it. Heh. Anyway, he supposedly won some top UK literary award, and has a movie deal with Dustin Hoffman signed on. The movie was announced about nine years ago, but according to IMBD is still in development. After reading most of the book, I'm thinking much of this is based on a lot of false embellishments (something the author is skilled in) and it haphazardly took on a life of its own because the writing is horrible, and the story is weak. This angers me because as a book blogger I have read too many brilliant independent authors who never get the recognition they deserve.

In an interview about the movie he was talking about friendship and redemption, because that's what the book is about, and he made a comment about how he doesn't understand why people he knew in the past can't just let their bad feelings about him go. Like we are the ones at fault. What a jerk.

After skipping a month, Jolene and I will be getting back to our Little House series buddy read. I still haven't found a decent copy of the 2017 Harper Collins collectors edition hardcover which matches my first two, so I bought the full color illustrated paperback from Book Outlet for this buddy read.

I read Disability Visibilty: First Person Stories of the Twenty-First Century. Again the book was not that great, and needing it for this challenge was the only reason I finished it.
What are you reading? Tell me!

The Nine Moons cover is stunning. I'm glad to know the book lives up to it. I'll have to try it. I hate truly terrible writing and I would bet that all the accolades for your "friend's" book are mostly exaggerated or bought. Also - don't worry I'm getting your comments! I have my comments set for moderation for posts older than 2 weeks because of the stupid bots. I'll be curious to see your thoughts on Alice with a Why. It's a really light read but in my opinion had the same off kilter feel of the original property.
