TELL ME TUESDAY #432 - Last. Now. Next. - *tidbits* #books #reading #BookBlog #BlackVoicesReading #iRead

TELL ME TUESDAY
NUMBER FOUR HUNDRED AND THIRTY-TWO
LAST. NOW. NEXT.
*tidbits*

TELL ME TUESDAY is a floating feature  where I tell you what I read last, what I'm reading now, and what I will be reading next.

In 2026 my reading has been set free from my one book a week rule. I also only have to read one book for my monthly theme instead of two, except for the ten days of Carib-A-Thon and Sci-Fi Month. I am also trying to read a Nonfiction that matches the theme, so I guess in reality that's two themed books a month. There's also my A Year of Brontë theme, and my Little House series buddy re-read with Jolene, who used to blog at Jo's Book Blog, to keep in mind. It's a good thing I am letting myself read as much as I want now!

THEMES
January has been Dragon Daze & Robot Raves month and I've read one dragon book and one robot book. I am also reading a Nonfiction right now that is loosely related to a concept in the robot book, but it's not about robots. I also read a Brontë.
February's theme is Black History Month.

I buddy re-read this for my A Year of Brontë with Liis from Cover to Cover. Neither one of us cared for it in our teen years, so we decided to revisit it as adults. When we first started reading we were both liking it and wondered why we had problems before, but the story had too much over the top melodrama, which I found out was popular in Victorian times, and I found the paranormal elements a bit cheesy. If you are going into this book looking for a Romance... Liis and I have deemed it an anti-romance, ha ha. Why it's crowned by some as "The World's Greatest Romance" is beyond me; it's more like "Two Narcissists in Love". We liked it a tad more because of the second generation storyline of Cathy and Linton at the end of the book. Liis had stopped reading before that the first time, and I'm thinking I may have done the same thing myself when I read it at fourteen.

This was my Dragon Daze themed book. It was my third time reading it. I read it when I was in college and and loved it and the other two books in the original trilogy (I see there are more books now). I gave it to my son to read when he was around fourteen and he didn't like it, so I decided to re-read it at that time and I didn't like it as much as I did originally. This re-read was the same. I only found it a little better than okay. It was on the boring side for me again this time.

I re-read this because when I had originally read it, it was a recommendation from my fifth grade teacher because I loved the Little House books. Planning my Little House series re-read with Jolene made me think of it. I was surprised at how diverse it was in content for being published in 1940.

I wanted to read this for Sci-Fi Month, but my hold came in yearly (I think the concepts were exploding readers brains, ha ha) so I didn't want to chance it.

  1. I want to go back to the 2019 me that read nearly 500 books a year, lol. I'm barely getting in a book a week at the moment. I'm finishing up Good Spirits (loving it) and plan on starting something witchy and magical next.

    1. Something witchy and magical sounds like a good plan for both of us! I have two MG graphic novels coming from Book Outlet from the Witches of Brooklyn series. ☺

    1. I imposed the one book a week rule before because I wanted to make time for playing my instruments and baking, but my health is preventing that now so it's a reading free-for-all, ha ha! ☺

  3. I have a vague memory of Blue Willow. I'm not sure if I read it or it was just recommended for the same reason it was to you. I somehow skipped reading Wuthering Heights in high school - my teacher that year was more into making us read Russian authors and Madame Bovary for whatever reason. My husband read it and really enjoyed it so I do feel like I should give it a chance. I'm in a classic mystery phase (big shock I know) and am reading a Patricia Wentworth on deck at the moment.

    1. You should give Wurthering Heights a whirl just for the experience. I didn't remember much about it from reading it at fourteen other than not liking it. I think maybe I just assumed Emily's writing would be like Charlotte's because they were sisters. Scenes with grown man rolling around on the floor having a tantrum like a toddler were too melodramatic for me. The second generation storyline at the end of the book was wonderful. I wish that part had been longer. And yes, no surprise you are reading classic mysteries! ☺

  4. This post made me add 2 books to my TBR. Sorry. Three! "There is no antimemetics division", "The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows" and "Service Model". Now... where can I add another hundred years to my life? XD
