TELL ME TUESDAY
NUMBER FOUR HUNDRED AND TWENTY-ONE
LAST. NOW. NEXT.
JANUARY READING WRAP-UP
*tidbits*

TELL ME TUESDAY is a floating feature, depending on your reading style, where you tell us what you read last, what you are reading now, what you will be reading next from your TBR pile, and why.
I am curious why people read what they read, so tell me!

ONE BOOK A WEEK
In 2025 my goal is to continue to keep my reading down to one book a week.

MONTHLY THEMES
I am proud to say I was able to fulfill my January theme of Dragons & Dickens by reading a dragon book and starting my Dickens slow-read!
My February reading theme is Black History Month.

ADULT FICTION
STANDALONE
"HORROR"
Published 2021 - Libby Borrow
I still have to write my thoughts on Goodreads, although if you read my updates you will get a bit of an idea of how I felt about this book. The slandering of Native Americans was horrendous. The author said so many ignorant things about Native Americans I thought for sure he must be English, but no... he is from Alabama. Beyond the "indians" being stupid and lazy remarks (he even had them calling each other lazy and stupid), in the story the Native Americans thought nature spirits were demons and every tribe had a witch doctor to capture them and imprison them in masks for eternity. Also, the nature spirits hated the Native Americans. Where did the author get that idea? He also portrayed one of the Witch Trial victims as a fantasy witch. This is highly disrespectful to those who lost their lives to the hysteria of those times. The entire book was absolute garbage; and the reason Horror is in quotes above, is there wasn't any... just long drawn out bloody beatings.

Thank goodness for this wonderful story which helped me bounce back from my previous read.

NATIVE AMERICAN TEACHINGS
Published November 2024 - Libby Borrow
Reading Kimmerer's book Braiding Sweetgrass was pretty much life-changing for me, and those kind of books don't come around very often. The Serviceberry is also mind opening, and at a mere 124 pages is an easy way to get your feet wet with her gentle, non preachy, teachings.

YOUNG ADULT
FANTASY
SERIES #24
DRAGONS
COMMUNITY
Published 2018 - Own Ebook
This was my dragon book for Dragons and Dickens January. I haven't rated it yet because I don't know if I want to give it five stars (4.5), or four stars (4.5). It was supposed to be the first book in a reboot of the author's mother's Pern series, but seven years plus is a long time to wait for the next novel. Will there be a continuation? Who knows. If you aren't intending to read the original Pern series this book can function as a standalone.

GOODREADS
LITERARY FICTION
STANDALONE
CLASSIC
Published 1853 - Own Ebook and Hardcover
Bleak House is my favorite Dickens novel. I read it for the first time when I was fourteen and again when I was sixteen. I also read it a third time in my thirties.

At 1,000+ pages it's my slow-read Dickens for 2025.

HISTORICAL FICTION
HUCKLEBERRY FINN RETELLING
FRIENDSHIP
SLAVERY
Published 2024 - Libby Borrow
James is a retelling of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from Jim the runaway slave's point of view. It's my first book for Black History Month. It's brilliant so far.

NONFICTION
ANTHOLOGY
MODERN BLACK CULTURE
BLACK ARTS
BLACK VOICES
Published 2020 - Own Ebook
This is a collection of works: art, photos, poetry, essays, dialogues, recipes, tweets and more, telling the story of what Black artists are creating today. It was supposed to be my first Black History Month read while I was waiting for my Libby hold of James to be available, but James came in early, so I set it aside. It's an extremely interesting and informative book.
