TELL ME TUESDAY #68

TELL ME TUESDAY is a feature that oozed from my post Twitter party fried brains. It is a floating feature (depending on your reading style), where you tell us what you are reading now, and why, and what you will be reading in the future from your tbr pile, and why. I am oh so curious why people read what they read. So tell me!

I am listening to THE GOLDEN COMPASS (Northern Lights) by Philip Pullman, via a library audiobook. We saw the movie at the theater and I did not know it was based on a book series until seeing the credits. I know, I know, please don't sigh so loudly. I borrowed the book from the library right after seeing the movie, but those were busier days when library books most times went back to the library unfinished. My sister brought me the audiobook after her last library trip because we had been talking about the new television series the BBC is doing. I thought I had read only about ten percent of the book, but I had read about 30 percent. I am finally at a place past what I remember.
It is a full cast narration and I am loving it. I bought the trilogy as an ebook bundle for $3.98 last year, but hadn't gotten around to reading them. I think I will have my sister get the other two as audiobooks for me, also.

Yes, I have this in hardcover in all its pulchritude and eccentricity, but I am just not in the mood for reading a physical book. At this point I don't want to start something new anyway because the Ho-Ho-Ho Read-A-Thon starts Thursday, and I am going to be jamming on holiday books for a week.

This is my first read-a-thon book. I got this as a free ebook last year; a lot of people were bugging me to read a holiday book because I had never read one before. If you want to see what other holiday reads I have planned there is a Ho-Ho-Ho Goodreads shelf widget on the sidebar.

Are you planning any holiday reads! Tell me!

  2. OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD you're experiencing His Dark Materials for the first time?!? I am so excited for you! Although uncertain how you're going to feel about the trilogy by the end. Hopefully you'll like it? Not going to lie, this series will always be super important to me because it had a huge impact on me as a person after 12 year-old me read it. Maybe I'll pick up the audio version from the library for the next book - I still haven't heard a full cast audio (and I'm quickly demolishing my library's options for audiobooks since finding books that A. I am interested in reading B. Will not make me cry C. Do not have any sexy times in it, is rather more challenging than I thought it would be. But when you're driving and listening these things are important!)

    1. Make sure you get the full cast version if you can because it is delicious! I have no idea why I had never heard of the books before the movie came out. Sebastian and I were both sad that the sequel movies were nixed. I read an article that said they had started filming the second movie and the producer just pulled the plug on it. It was just too anti-organized religion for the masses I guess. :/
