TELL ME TUESDAY #35

TELL ME TUESDAY is a feature that oozed from the fried brains of myself and one of my best blogging buddies. It is a weekly, or bi-weekly feature (depending on your reading style), where you tell us what you are reading now, and why, and what you will be reading in the future from your tbr pile, and why. I am oh so curious why people read what they read. So tell us!

What have I been reading?

COOKBOOKS!

and

March must be a big cookbook release month because I received several from Netgalley. There was a sizable selection to choose from. A couple were Read Nows, but I also was approved for quite a few requests. I think I was also given a couple from Edelweiss. I am still trying to "eat" my way through the rest of these culinary books, but so far my favorites have been:

Their illustrative photographs alone make want to...

Now on a more genteel note...

After seeing so many bloggers on Twitter commenting on THE SIN EATER'S DAUGHTER, and seeing reviews popping up on Goodreads and some of my favorite blogs, I shelved the book I ditched Seraphina for, and started TSED. I wanted to be able to get in on the book discussions while the topic was still new and fresh. My justification was that the book I was reading was not an ARC, and with Shadow Scale publishing on the 10th of March, there was no way I was going to finish Seraphina and complete Shadow Scale for a review before then. The pub date for my next ARC, the steampunk themed story that I had the ugly run-in with the publisher about, isn't until the 17th, so I had an open space there. I am 80% finished with The Sin Eater's Daughter, and at this point it looks like it is going to be  solid four. I was thinking about 4 1/2 stars, but she threw a clunker in the mix for me at about the 60% mark; one I don't think she can redeem herself from. This is a very storyline driven book. It keeps you wanting to read to find out what is happening next, even though the prose are pretty plain and the writing is very basic in descriptors. Does that make sense? I hope so. The author writes wonderful characters. I will be finished during my lunch today because it is a quick reading book.

The Middle Grade book THICKETY, that so many readers seemed to find fascinating, was a $1.99 as an ebook, yesterday, so I purchased it and I think it is going to be my next read.

The drop in price must mean its sequel is coming out soon. I am enjoying this little break for me reading.

What are you reading?

  1. THE THICKETYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! That's an MG book whose darkness and creepiness if off the charts insane. I really hope you love it, Lala! It's close to my heart for a very, very weird reason. Haha.

    1. You were the first person I remember mentioning it and you made it sound so interesting I had my eye out for reviews. Thanks for bringing it to my attention in the first place! :)

  2. Ok, I HAVE to know what clunker you mean at 60%! I really liked the Sin-Eater's Daughter but it did have some problems. You probably read our review. LOL. Also, that Salsa and Mole cookbook looks soooo good. And I love the Spirited Away gifs. :D

    1. There was something in the book that directly related to the "real world" and as far as I can see there was no reason for it. I am at the 80% mark now and she has really ticked me off again, so it has dropped to three stars at this point. Lol. I love reading cook books. :)

  3. The Thickety looks really, really cute! And man I wouldn't have a CLUE how to review cookbooks! I bet my boyfriend would be excited if I got cookbooks for review though...maybe I should ask him if he is interested....(I'm betting the review would demolish any interest in this process haha)

    1. Yeah, I am always asking Sebastian if he will review books I get that are "sciencey", or graphic novels, with no volunteering from him. Lol. Sometimes he says he will, but after he thinks about it he starts making excuses. :)

  4. I love reading cookbooks as well, but I seldom get around to making a bunch of the recipes. I really need to drag some out and do some cooking. I really really struggled with Seraphina as well. I finished it but now I am not eager to dive into Shadow Scale. I am glad I am not the only one. I am listening to Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop and its fantastic.

  5. So many people have said that about Seraphina and I hear Shadow Scale is even denser. I really love the writing style, but I have to be in the right mood to enjoy it. I have seen many great reviews of Vision in Silver. I will be looking for your review. :)
