TELL ME TUESDAY #34

TELL ME TUESDAY is a feature that oozed from the fried brains of myself and my best blogging buddy, after a mind twisting Armchair BEA Twitter party.  It is a weekly, or bi-weekly feature (depending on your reading style), where you tell us what you are reading now, and why, and what you will be reading in the future from your tbr pile, and why. I am oh so curious why people read what they read. So tell us!

As per my last TMT you all know that I am not reading the steampunk story right now (but I will finish it). I started reading Seraphina, so I could get Shadow Scale read and reviewed by the publishing date, but although I do adore the book and the writing style, I started getting bogged down for some reason, so I took a break. I ended up starting a side story, In the Shadow of the Mountains, to an Adult vampire novel, The Medium, I received from Goodreads First Reads last year.

It is free as an ebook. The author let me know about it because I had given The Medium, five stars. The Medium was the first vamp story I had read and liked since reading the original trio of Anne Rice books many, many years ago.

I don't reccomend reading In the Shadow of the Mountains first, even if it is considered a stand alone because if you don't already know the characters, the first 20% of the book would be boring; boring enough to dnf, actually.

These books are collectively known as The Books of Lost Knowledge. I purchased an enovella The Wailing for $1.99. I found out it is about one of the characters common to the other two stories, but set before both of those books. I also downdloaded two free short stories from Amazon. I have no idea if they have anything to do with the Lost Knowledge books. Plus, The Medium and the new book coming out, The Mora, are their own thing as the Luminosity books. CONFUSING! After I read them all, I should be able to figure things out. Ha!

I don't know if I will read The Wailing after this, or go back to Seraphina.

What are you reading?

  1. I had to take a break from reading Shadow Scale too, but I hope to return to it soon too!

  2. I love the writing, but it is like there is a "thickness" to it an it tires you out reading it. That is the best way I can explain it.

  3. Ohhh you're reading Seraphina?! I WANT TO REREAD THAT. I want to read Shadow Scale. *gulps* But it's huge. it's like a million pages and I am a wuss. >_<

  4. The writing is really thick, too. Beautiful, but heavy. That's why I took a break. Long and word dense is more of a summer vacation read for me when I am relaxed. Lol.

  5. I'm actually reading a bunch of books... I'm going to read EMMY AND OLIVER next for review, but the rest, I'm thinking of taking a break from ARCs and just read the books I bought from over last year that I haven't gotten ot yet. And I'm glad to know there is a vampire series out there that's worth of 5 stars! I haven't really seen one in a while; even J Kagawa's Eden series didn't really merit 5 stars from me.

    1. A break from ARCs, yes! After I finish that steampunk book that pubs on the 17th, I am taking a break because Shadow Scale pubs the 10th and there is no way I can finish Seraphina and read SS, too before then. I think the rest of my ARCs publish in May, or later, so I too am going to do some me reading! :)

  6. I really struggled with Seraphina as well. I had a hard time getting into it and at the end I was just not over the moon over it like I expected, now I am putting off Shadow Scales because I'm just not excited for it.

    1. Yeah, for me it is one of those books I have to have that rare combinatipn of mood and perfect reading environment for. I will finish Seraphina and get to Shadow Svale, but probably won't be until I have vacation this summer. I am hoping it is only a duology. Ha! :)

    2. Also, I have heard that Shadow Scale is even more difficult to digest!
