As you can see my blog is all wonky. I couldn't reload my feather background after I removed the Valentine background, so I had to use one of the Blogger default images. When I did that, it reset my color scheme (I also noticed that some of the fonts changed, too). I have been trying to change all the settings back to custom, but my Kindle has decided that it wants to dance with Blogger, so it's jumping all over the place, and it won't let me copy and past, so this is going to be an ulta-short post.
THE SUNDAY POST (also, it says auto-c and the word anticipator are off, but it just changed Sunday to abundant) is hosted by Kimba at The Caffeinated Reviewer.
Someday I am going to do a full blog post about Fhkeindle the Kindle demon.
I received my order from Book Outlet a day early.
I was going to get better pics, but the Kindle needs extra bright lighting for sharp photos and that requires some help from my son, who seems to be gone most of the time this semester. I am going to start posting an end of the month Stacking the Shelves, so I will do a better job for that.

The two Septimus Heap Books were Scratch and Dent specials and their dust jackets were in better shape than a couple of the regulars. Go figure. I was a bit miffed that on two of the Gabrielle Zevin Birthright books they put the cutout black marker ticks on the top page edges and not the bottom. I was, however, pleased that all the of the Zevin trilogy books matched. This was my first BO order and I was for the most part pleased. Six of the seven books are hardcover, and Harry a History is a softcover, so it is larger than a paperback and the cover is more durable; with shipping included the books averaged $6.00 apiece. I also recieved a very nice free calendar.

I won Eileen's New Year giveaway over on BookCatPin, and received a $10.00 Amazon gift card; thanks Eileen! I spent it right away, of course, and bought the ebook omnibus of all three of His Dark Materials books.

I did manage a TELL ME TUESDAY and you can read it, HERE.

And...
It is still frigid and snowy here.
Where do you look for discount physical books online?
I love the His Dark Materials Trilogy, it is such a clever grouping of fantasy novels. I hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I started reading The Golden Compass from the library a few years back, but had started a new job and didn't get a chance to finish it before it had to go back. It kind of slipped of my radar until recently. I get to ebooks quicker than physical copies, so I think I will be reading them this summer. :)
DeleteIt's been very cold here, too. Your stack of books looks good, I see some good stuff there. Sorry Blogger is being wonky, I want to change my look too but never want to take the the time to actually do it right. :) And I'd probably screw it up, too. Hope your weekend is good.
ReplyDeleteBlogger does have a design back-up feature, but it stores in my photo downloads for some reason, and I always end up deleting it by accident. Lol. I can handle it if it is just Blogger, or the Kindle acting up, but when they decide to tango together, I want to cry!
DeleteYou're posting on your blog from your Kindle ? I didn't know you were that brave ! Every time I try to surf the net with my own, I get crazy and want to tear my hair out. Being on Blogger too, I can relate ! Oh oh, I saw Bardugo in your pile, I'm hoping I'll get to read it soon, it's slowly but surely coming up my to-read list. Have a great week ;)
ReplyDeleteYes to the Grisha books! I was given a hardcover of Ruin and Rising, which I still haven't gotten to because I was spoiled for the big occurance in the story), for my my birthday from my past TMT co-host. I saw the Siege HC for $6.99 and grabbed it. Now I am on the search for a discounted Shadow and Bone HC, or someone who wants to do a trade. Hehe, someone on Twitter accused me of lying about doing my blog on my Kindle Fire. Lol. I work on my laptop and for some reason blogging on it makes it seem like work for some reason.
DeleteI love Zevins Birthright series, one of my favorites, I need to catch up on it! I've been wanting to redo my blog as well but I'm so afraid I'll screw it up :/ Hope it's a little warmer today for you :)
ReplyDeleteI have loved everything I have read of Gabrielle's so far. I read two standalones, too. The YA, Elsewhere, and the Adult, The Storied Life of A.J. Fickry. The blog changing thing IS scary. When I changed my margines to make the post body part wider, about a month ago, all the images in my previous posts changed to "medium" size for some reason. Weird. I go and change a few every once and a while, but it is going to take forever!
DeleteSorry about the Blogger/Kindle fun. I hate when things like that don't work because it's not an easy obvious fix so it ends up taking way more time than it should. I just want things to work! I've only done used books from Amazon and 99% of the time it's worked out great. There was book that smelled like it'd been living in an ashtray for years so it had to spend some time in the garage. I haven't checked out Book Outlet but now I want to. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI have always been leary of used books, but maybe I'll give a couple a try and get my feet wet. Amazon does have the seller ratings on the posts, so it isn't a completely blind purchase. As a reformed smoker I am particularly sensitive to cigarette smell now for some reason. It really makes me nauseous.
DeleteI absolutely adored the His Dark Materials trilogy! The last book killed me!!
ReplyDeleteBtw, have I mentioned how much I loved the button you've made for my blog in here? Also, Fav Five? THANK YOU! ;)
I feel guilty being so OCD about things being "matchy-matchy" as one of my irl friends calls it (yes, I am that way at home, too!), and making different buttons for people if theirs doesn't match my blog design. I always think they think I don't like their button, but that hasn't been true of anyone's yet. (((HUGS))) all my Fave Fives! I had not heard of the HDM books begore my son and I saw The Golden Compass movie. I read a bit of the first book a few years ago (before blogging) and loved it, but it had to go back to the library before I was finished. Now the problem is finding the time to read them!
DeleteI've used BookOutlet several times and I really love it. It's about the only place I buy hardcovers, but I also shop on ThriftBooks when I'm looking for Harry Potter editions. But it's sort of a gamble when it comes to quality because I've ordered "like new" books and received books with tears in them.
ReplyDeleteThat's my only stall about buying used; peoples interpretation of quality, lol. I am going to be checking out some of these places you have all been suggesting because I need The Dream Thieves in HC, and Shadow and Bone in HC.
DeleteYou're so welcome!! Hope you enjoy all your new goodies :D
ReplyDeleteThanks! And you know I will! :D
DeleteYou are brave for doing blog posts on your Kindle! I have a friend who does them on her phone, and I simply do not understand how! Hopefully everything will get back to normal for you soon!
ReplyDeleteSiege and Storm! I love that book, I hope you do too :) As for cheap books, Book Outlet is usually where I head! I wish I had a used bookstore or something locally, but alas, I do not. Sometimes I will wait for a good coupon somewhere and pre order ALL the books on sale. I wish there were better options, but Amazon usually wins for me. Hope you enjoy the new books, and have a great week!
Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight
Thanks! Blogging on a phone? Gosh! Now that's real talent! I think Book Outlet is going to be my go to for all the HC copies I can find of ARCs and ebooks I want in HC for my shelves. :)
DeleteTechnology can make us all bonkers. It makes me pull my hair out when all of my hardware doesn't play nice :) Have a wonderful week, and hope it sorts out.
ReplyDeleteYeah. It is better on my laptop for sure, but it just makes it feel like an extension of work somehow when I blog on it. It might be bacause my old job was very similar to the book blogging. Now that I am not doing entertainment promotion anymore, maybe I'll try blogging on the laptop again. :)
DeleteYour blog looks fine now. Hopefully you ironed out all the bugs? It is frustraing when things go wrong for sure. I do like your feather background. You picked up some great books on the scratch and dent sale. Love that. I hope you warm up and get rid of the snow soon. I can't complain we are having unusually mild, warm weather here in Oregon, we will probably pay for it in March and April.
ReplyDeleteYes! I managed to get my normal background uploaded again, and I even figured out how to get my post titles to center with css. I hope your weather stays good. I am hoping this isn't going to be the norm here in the Northeast from now on because this was exactly how it was last year. :/
DeleteHDM is an excellent series!! Do you plan to review? I'm curious to see what you think of them!
ReplyDeleteYes, it probably won't be until this summer though. I keep making promises to myself a break from review books, but it never happens! I started reading The Golden Compass a few years back, after seeing the movie, and was loving it, but it had to go back to the library before I was finished. With ebooks I am more likely to get them read. :)
Delete"Fhkeindle the Kindle demon" - Oh my god I'm DYING here hahahahaha! And changing Sunday to abundant?! Oh autocorrect. You're a mess. (I can't type ANYTHING on my kindle, it always ends up as a mess of random letters. I don't know how you do it!)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like everything's turned out alright since you wrote this though, since everything looks normal. So yay! Blog format issues are SO frustrating. I can't even think about anything else when something goes wrong which makes it even worse haha
I still haven't changed the page and side bar background colors, but that is just me being lazy. I was all proud that I figured out how to add the css to center the side bar footers and post titles, but then realized it was only doing one or the other. Ugh. Lol.
DeleteI buy a lot of used books from my favorite used book store. She has a secret thing she does that removes odors from the books. I've never had a stinky one. LOL
