JANUARY READING WRAP-UP
TELL ME TUESDAY is a floating feature, depending on your reading style, where you tell us what you read last, what you are reading now, what you will be reading next from your tbr pile, and why. I am curious why people read what they read, so tell me!
It's been a while my friends!

This is a Wicked Years, spin-off series! I am looking forward to the next one. There was a bit of a cliffhanger. Ha! If you think you want to read the original series do not read the Goodreads summary for this book; it will spoil everything! That is why I linked my review page even though there is no review up yet. When my review does go up it will be a review of the writing only not the story itself, so don't worry.

I'm glad I stuck with this series. The first two, two star ratings were for so much gratuitous violence, which those panels can be skipped over without missing much, if any, story. The three star rating for the last volume was given for a large plot hole in connecting the origin story of the plague, given in volume five, and the current storyline. I haven't seen the television series yet.

The above were my most interesting reads from December. There were others, seventeen in all, including finishing up my beloved Giant Days graphic novel series, but at this point as it is 2022... I just want to move on. Ha ha.

In no way was this book YA. The science was also faulty and killed the entire premise. The story construction was a huge mess. It's too bad because the author writes prose beautifully.

Why can publishers not give us decent size, good resolution cover images? This was basically more of the same and there were continuity breaks from the first novel to this one.

This book was almost all grandiose descriptions of paranormal phenomena and almost zero story. It's also the fourth or fifth book I've read in a year's time that is adult content fiction, but written like Middle Grade. They need to start a new category called Adult Easy Reading.

I wanted to love this book, and I did love most of it, but there was too much emphasis put on the importance of "fine looks." There was also too much sexual tension and allusion for Middle Grade.

If anything made me more confident about my complaints about The Sea in Winter it was starting this MG right after it. Karina Yan Glaser's books are everything a Middle Grade should be. This one has been difficult to put down. She is the author of my beloved Vanderbeekers series!

Many people don't know that Alexander Dumas was biracial. His grandmother was a slave in Haiti. I will be listening to the audiobook for this 1,316 page behemoth, off and on via Hoopla, over this year. This is a re-read for me. I first read it ages ago in my early twenties.

Sorry I haven't been around. I had a heart issue and had to go in to see a doctor, and despite taking every precaution I fell victim to Omicron. As far as Omicron being mild, well not for everyone, it sucked the life out of me. I had severe symptoms (horrible headaches, back pain, muscle and joint pain, severe nausea, chills, sore throat, dizziness, and weakness) for almost three weeks. Thank goodness I didn't get the lung problems, or it surely would have killed me. Everyone I know who has had it was at least double vaccinated, the one who had it mildly for three days had their booster shot. I am still extremely weak and shaky, and get waves of nausea if I have to bend to do something. Everyone please get your booster and continue masking. Masking works because Baz didn't contract it from me. I will also say thank goodness for audiobooks.

I will be blog hopping tomorrow. My blogging friends on Facebook and those who follow my music/personal account on Instagram knew I was still around, but I'd like to thank Greg from Book Haven for checking up on me on Twitter.
