THE SATURDAY SOUP #9

THE SATURDAY SOUP
NINE
A SPOONFUL OF MY LIFE
OCTOBER MEMORIES
A CAT NAMED ZUZU
AND A SOUP RECIPE

Welcome to The Saturday Soup! It's a floating feature I hope to post once a month, but if I can't find the time there's no pressure. I will be giving a life update and sharing a soup recipe.

I am linking up with The Sunday Post, hosted by The Caffeinated Reviewer.

This is what it looked like just outside my city the third week in October in Upstate New York. It was pretty warm all month usually in the high 50s to mid-60s. On October 22nd it was sunny and 76°F (24.5 degrees Celsius).

It was my birthday in October. It has become a tradition for my son to get a Wegmans Mini Ultimate Chocolate Cake and sunflowers for my birthday. The cake is the size of two or three slices, but I have it all to myself because my son doesn't like chocolate cake.

He wasn't able to get to Wegmans to purchase my cake until after my birthday, so he made brownies for me that day; and yes I did get my favorite birthday meal of McDonald's Filet-O-Fish, large fries and a chocolate shake. Yay for the shake machine being in working order!

Another birthday tradition which has started is getting extra goodies from Tom's Coffee Cards & Gifts. Baz knows I always want a local barbecue sauce called Theo's, fudge, and a pretty stone. He thought the T.O.E. JAM was hilarious. The gummies were way too expensive and I felt guilty, so I gave them to him. The large chocolate truffle on top of my cake also came from Tom's.

The T.O.E. JAM was my favorite. It's delicious!

I hadn't requested my birthday book yet. I decided on this Ace Deluxe Edition of the second Dune series title, Dune Messiah. I have the deluxe edition of Dune and I'll be asking for the third book, Children of Dune, for our annual Xmas Eve book and cookies exchange.

I had been wanting one of the Butterbeer mugs from the Wizarding World theme park for years for Pottergram photos. Jolene, who used to blog at Jo's Book Blog, sent two to me for my birthday and the cutest black cat card. She made me promise I would also use them. I really don't want to wash them very much, so I told her I would use them on Back to Hogwarts Day every year.

This arrived on Halloween day. Is it a birthday present? A Halloween present? I don't know! It was sent from a store in North Carolina and there was no card or note. I'm going to email the store to see if they can tell me who sent it. I will also post to my Facebook because most people who would have my address would be close friends or family.
It's the softest plushie I have ever felt.

A CAT NAMED ZUZU

I haven't posted a Saturday Soup since the end of last January, so Easter slipped by. This bunny outfit was adorable, but the medium dog size was too small. Hilarious! He was also being all kinds of unruly, so this was the only photo which wasn't blurry. Ha! Next year I will see if we can get one with the bunny ears up.

This is from his birthday on October 14th. It's actually the day we brought him in off the streets, but I hate the word "gotcha"; it reminds me of the word my Polish babysitter used for underwear, gotchies. He still had treats left from his gigantic Easter basket, so he only received toys: a motorized swimming fish and three packs of 16 count crinkle balls.
He is loved to the moon and back.

And woo hoo! I was approved for an eARC of Elphie on Edelweiss! I am over the moon excited there is another The Wicked Years series novel! It's about Elphaba's childhood in more detail than in Wicked. I love Maguire's Oz retellings including the spin-off series, Another Day. I must say I was more than a little disappointed the new Wicked movie is based on the Broadway musical and not the novel. The books are not fluffy, they are adult fantasy and sometimes very dark with political elements. Stories that make you think.
