I am so behind with my blogging. Between Kindle problems, Bogger acting up, and being sick from new medications it's been a challenge. These won't be all the books I read last (I'm tired of fighting with Blogger right now), but I will add the others in my next TMT. I just wanted to get my March Reading Wrap-Up posted before the end of April. Heh.

This was my second Little House buddy re-read with Jolene. We read Farmer Boy, the second book in the series, first because it is first chronologically. We have been having fun discussing memories of reading the books and discussing history. We've also been making foods mentioned in the books from The Little House Cookbook.

This book is a prime example why most men should not write female main characters. Literary is in quotes above because it's more like Chick Lit. Chick Lit written by men should not exist. Ha ha. It is the book about Ireland I read for March.

I finished my tenth read of Jane Eyre since I was twelve. It was first suggested to me by my best friend's mother who was our junior high librarian. It was also my third "almost annual" re-read with Liis from Cover to Cover. We concentrated on passages about Edward's wife, Bertha, this year in preparation for our buddy read of Wide Sargasso Sea. Because I have been so ill from some of my medications, we have not finished our StoryGraph buddy read discussion as of yet, but I am looking forward to getting back to it in a day or two. I am also still tabbing and annotating a physical copy with ebook highlights and notes. Jane Eyre is my second favorite book of a lifetime.

This was Charlotte's first novel. Her agent couldn't find anyone who wanted to publish it, and it was still being sent out to publishers when she finished Jane Eyre. Jane Eyre, however, was picked up by the third publishing house it was sent to. This book reads very much like a first try at writing a novel. It should be titled I Hate Belgians. Good grief. It was finally published after her death. My thinking is she had changed her mind about having it published. This is, of course, for my A Year of Brontë. I have also been reading Elizabeth Gaskell's biography, The Life of Charlotte Brontë.

OZ RETELLING
Publishes September 29th 2026 - NetGalley DRC

I had requested a review copy on Edelweiss, but I received an email from NetGalley saying the publisher had selected a group of reviewers, based on downloads of previous The Wicked Years DRCs, for pre-approved copies. I was thrilled to get one. However, the opening paragraph which has been exquisite in all of his other Oz books and most of the rest of the first chapter was disappointing. I think it has been dumbed down because of all of the complaints and bad reviews from the movie and musical fans about the other prequel Elphie. If so, it is the second time this has happened with this series. So many of the musical fans rioted about how dark and political the second book, Son of a Witch, was that Maguire promised the publisher he would tone down the rest of the books in the series. Son of a Witch was my favorite, so this angered me. Elphie is for all intents and purposes Young Adult, and that's okay because it is a coming of age story, but so far Galinda has read like a cozy. Blah.

I am also not a fan of the prequel covers.

Jolene and I will be starting the third book in the series, Little House on the Prairie, and continuing to read the connected content from the Pioneer Girl annotated autobiography for our series buddy read. We will also continue making some of the foods mentioned in each book from recipes in The Little House Cookbook.

Prompt for March, a book with an unusual friendship, completed!
•
I read The Awakening of HK Derryberry: My Unlikely Friendship With the Boy Who Remembers Everything. The book was so poorly written, and such a brag book, needing it for this challenge was the only reason I finished it.
Wow! I haven't had a giveaway to post in a long time; and this is a doozie!
The grand prize winner will receive an ultimate spring reading package with all seven books, seven beautiful bookmarks, and four bookish accessories. Seven runner-up winners will receive one book with its paired bookmark and two bookish accessories. ENTRIES CLOSE ON MAY FIRST!
