MY APRIL READING THEME IS:
DISABILITY AWARNESS
A Year of Brontë
Martin Chuzzlewit by Charles Dickens Year-Long Slow Read
Little House Series by Laura Ingalls Wilder Buddy Re-Read
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë Almost Annual Buddy Read

Let me bring you up to date on my A Year of Brontë, of which I haven't published the introduction post for; there are so many contradicting publishing dates for the sisters' works I wanted to make sure I have them right, and I haven't been in the mood to deep research them.
I still haven't gotten back to Tales of Glass Town, Angria, and Gondal. It was supposed to be a collection of stories the Brontë siblings wrote as preteens and younger teens edited into novel form, but it is not. It's only a small selection of the original stories, and the semi-biographical analytical introduction is boring and sludgey.

I was so nervous about my cardiologist appointment on the first that I forgot about watching the second half of To Walk Invisible, a two part PBS Masterpiece Theater presentation about the Brontë family. I saved a Hoopla borrow for nothing. For a PBS show it's not very well done. I will be watching it this coming week. My cardiology appointment went better than I expected, so I was worried for no reason. Ha ha.

MY JANE EYRE EDITIONS COLLECTION
I started my almost annual buddy re-read of Jane Eyre last month, with Liis from Cover to Cover, for Women's History Month; we read Villette by Charlotte last year, hence the "almost". The internet can be a wonderful place sometimes. When I was younger I never would have imagined in my wildest dreams I would be buddy reading books with someone in Estonia
We will be continuing our read into this month. I am tabbing and annotating a used clothbound hardcover I have that didn't arrive in the best of shape, so cross-referencing from my ebook will take a while. However, if I have the time I will also be reading The Professor.

This is my used 2009 Penguin Clothbound Classics edition. It arrived in less than satisfactory condition for a book listed as "used very good". I purchased a paperback to annotate, but seeing this project is also for my A Year of Brontë I decided to use the clothbound. I will be getting another one for my bookshelves. Liis sent the sticky tabs to me for this three Yules ago. I bought the metal annotating tool (I think it's actually a bullet journal stencil), and ultra fine tip pens to use with it, also about three years ago. The box the materials are in was for my first set of paper bank checks, from 1979 when I started college. Yes, I am that old. Yikes!

I was going to make recipes from this cookbook. I had been reading it during my three months for 99¢ Kindle Unlimited special offer. I was going to buy the ebook for $2.99, but as soon as my Kindle Unlimited deal was over the option to buy it disappeared. I cannot find the book at all. Anywhere. It's still on Goodreads, but there's no buying options; not even a physical copy shows up. Strange. I am going to keep checking back because her other literary cookbooks are still available. Maybe she is updating this one.

I made the feature header graphic for my series re-read posts. Now I have to finish up the first two posts about Farmer Boy and Little House in the Big Woods.

Jolene and I will be starting the third book in the series, Little House on the Prairie, this month and continuing to read the connected content from the Pioneer Girl annotated autobiography. We will also continue making some of the foods mentioned in each book from recipes in The Little House Cookbook.
I purchased this paperback edition, with color illustrations, from Book Outlet to use for photos until I find the matching hardcover edition to the first two I have. I will put this one in a Little Free Library when I'm finished.

As I have mentioned before, Jolene has visited all of the main series sites. This is her copy with the prairie location, from the book, in the background.

Hmm... maybe I will watch the first episode. Should I?

APRIL IS DIVERSITY MONTH
I focus on books with characters who have physical disabilities, or non-autism intellectual/cognitive disabilities because books with this subject matter seem to be talked about a lot less. I have been reading a Nonfiction and have a Middle Grade ready to go.

NONFICTION

What are you reading in April?

  1. I loved Little House on the Prairie when I was a kid.

    1. They are a lot different from the books. I do think the TV show got more people to read the books, though. My series buddy reading partner read the books because of the show. 📺

  2. I adored the Little House books but never watched the show. Partly the timing didn't work out as I think I was a bit young for it when it was on and partly because my mother was very strange about tv watching and very rarely let me watch things regularly. I've thought about going back and watching the show but I kind of think I want to leave the world alone. I'm spending a bit of time considering my reading and am realizing that I'm really not enjoying thrillers right now - especially domestic ones. I've found them so stressful lately which is not what I need. I'm about to start Jane of Lantern Hill by L.M. Montgomery which I'm looking forward to rereading. It's been years and I really only remember that Jane is a very different heroine then the usual Montgomery character. She's much more straightforward and not much of a dreamer. I'm so glad your cardiologist appointment was better than expected. It's always such a relief when those scary appointments end up not being quite so scary.

    1. Same here with television. I was only allowed one hour total during the week, one show on Saturday, and I could watch the Sunday Disney Hour with the family. Most shows were off limits anyway. I remember it took my best friend's mother months to convince my mother to let me watch The Monkees. 😏

I have to get back to the L.M. Montgomery books again. I have made plans to buddy re-read the Green Gables series with my Little House reading buddy next year. You are more than welcome to join us. 📗📘📙 I need to read The Blue Castle this year. I bought an ebook.🎴
