THE SUNDAY POST #FOUR

THE SUNDAY POST is a weekly feature hosted by Kimba at The Caffinated Book Reviewer. It is a chance to recap the previous week, share news, showcase books and/or bookish things we have received, and tell about what is coming up on our blog in the next week. You can view the rules, HERE.

MONDAY: I started a new job, so nothing bookish got done other than finishing Compulsion in the wee hours of the morning because I couldn't put it down during the last 20%.

TUESDAY:  I posted a TELL ME TUESDAY. I was also aproved for two Month9 Books review eARCs, for the very first time! I have been requesting review books from them for about six months, with zero approvals, so it was a nice surprise.

WEDNESDAY: There was no Whatever Wednesday post because I was reading during my spare moments and didn't get a chance to put the finishing touches on it. B.W.O.

THURSDAY: I read this wonderfull blog post about the books Elizabeth, at So Long... and Thanks For All the Fish, felt shaped her life growing up, HERE. It gave me an idea for a post on how the Harry Potter books shaped our family life while my son was growing up. I might also do a post about how the book Heidi impacted my character as a child.

FRIDAY: Did some blog visiting and comment replys; then read The Raven Boys.

SATURDAY: Family time.

RANDOMNESS:

Lori M. Lee, the author of Gates of Thread and Stone, posted the link to this article on Twitter. It is hilarious! HOW TO TELL IF YOU ARE IN A HIGH FANTASY NOVEL.

I post an #FF for my top five favorite YA authors every Friday on Twitter and I include a writing quote with it for them. I loved the one I found for last Friday. It also made me look into the author the quote was from, and I ended up buying the audiobook of The Thirteenth Tale.

LET'S DANCE!

WHAT I GOT:

BOOK MAIL:
On Tuesday I received a beautiful hard cover of The Raven Boys from Amanda at Of Spectacles and Books. She sent it to me in exchange for a guest review on her blog. It matches the HC of Blue Lily, Lily Blue, I won. Now I need to find someone who wants to trade for a HC of The Dream Theives.

EBOOK and AUDIOBOOK DEALS:

On Wednesday I found a free edition of The Time Machine that had a FREE add-on narration, HERE. If you only want the 49¢ audiobook, you can find that, HERE.

On Saturday I bought the audiobook of The Thirteenth Tale after looking into the author of the above #FF quote. I know I am on a book buying ban, but it was only $6.95 and I didn't know how long it would be that price. If you want to check out her writing style first, her short story The Princess and the Pea is a FREE EBOOK.

REVIEW BOOKS:

MONTH9 BOOKS: I received eARCs of Lucas Mackenzie and the London Midnight Ghost Show and The Perilous Journey of the Not-So-Innocuous Girl for review.

NETGALLEY: Shadow Scale, the sequel to Seraphina, was a Read Now on Thursday. If you want it you should go check to see if it is still there.

NEXT WEEK:

I will be working on my blog review for Compulsion. I will also be working on my guest post review of The Raven Boys for Of Spectacles and Books. My Whatever Wednesday will be the story about my son's pineapple pants, as requested by Cait at Paper Fury. I also think I am going to start drafting that Harry Potter tribute idea. There will also be a new Kookies and Milk post up on my Children's book blog at some point.

Is anyone planning on doing any special Black History Month posts in February?

  1. Love your GIFs! Especially the one with the cat and the curtain. I hope you're enjoying your new job. It's hard to read for the first few weeks in a new job. I always felt like I was spending all my brain power trying to figure out everything and there was none left over for really anything else. Yay on the approvals! I love getting an approval from a publisher I've just about given up on. It doesn't happen very often but it totally makes my day. Have a great week!

    1. Yes, I felt like I was adrift in a sea of book blogging confusion! I have Fridays off so I think if I sit down and do an actual blogging schedule (horrors) I will be fine.

  2. You have me excited about Compulsion. I laughed so hard at the cat playing peek-a-boo. Have fun reading the Dream Thieves series, it is so nice having a matching set. Hope work goes well, and you find time for reading :)

    1. I was so excited about Compulsion I joined the street team! I went that discount book site, is it called Book Deals? I was crossing my fingers that they had The Dream Thieves in HC, but they had zero Raven Cycle books of any kind. I am going to go have a look over at the YA book exchange to see if I have better luck over there.

  4. I think my boss will let me work from home with only one day in the office after he trusts me. Lol. I had to work on the weekends sometimes with my old job, so this one is already better! The quote is very dark when you think about it. :)

  6. Congrats on your new job! I hope it will be an awesome job for a long time :)

The dancing cat gif is too cute, it made me want to do a little twirl, too.

I need to check out the Book 9 arc place, not because I really need any more review books, but you know... I can't help myself, and love to be able to add more books to my shelf all the time.

Have a fantastic Sunday and a great week.

  8. Congrats on the new job, and how awesome if you could work from home some of the time. I always thought I could do that, too, with the job I had, pre-retirement...but the bureaucratic agency was into having their eyes on you at least some of the time...LOL.

Great GIFs, and enjoy your week. Thanks for visiting my blog.

    1. Thanks! I was spoiled in my last job with being able to do what I wanted, where I wanted, most of the time as long as I got my work done. The company is moving out of town in March, so I figured I needed to snap this job up.

  10. Congratulations on your new job. The cover of the book THE RAVEN BOYS reminds me of Jersey Boys (the musical). Only if they were being attacked by a large bird.

Congratulations on your new job. I'm sure once you settle in, your blogging will become easier and get back to normal. That words excerpt was great and so true for me!

    1. Thanks! A couple of the authors are going to print the quote off and frame it for their offices. I might do the same. I am always thinking how boring things would be around our house without the two cats. :)

    1. You are welcome! I thought I had the full ebook of Seraphina, but I only have a sampler. I checked and it is still a full price ebook, so I am going to have to get it from the library. I will probably end up buying them both in hardcover anyway because the cover art is divine! *wuzzies* The Harry Potter post will be loooooooooong. Lol.

    1. Oh no!! I did a general tweet about it the second the NG email showed up! Are you signed up for their emails? I have a separate email account that only has my top ten blogs, EW, NG and a couple of publishers that send notices, in it. That way things don't get buried. (((hugs)))

  16. I really need to read The Raven Boys, I have a hardcover and the audiobook and still haven't made time for it. I love The Time Machine, it's such a strange story but I thought it was a lot of fun to read. I'll be waiting to read your HP post!

    1. I think I have it figured out why a lot of readers didn't care for the first Raven Cycle book. It has a lot of geographical and physics information in it, so far. I like all that stuff. Yeah the HP post I am really going to work on until it is close to perfect.

  18. *marks calendar for Wednesday* I need this story of the pineapple pants.
Ohhh yay for series that match! WELL NEARLY. XD I am tossing up buying The Dream Thieves, actually, but I'm terrified it won't match my copy of BLLB. #bookwormproblems
OH DON'T TEMPT ME FOR SHADOW SCALE. GAH. I loved Seraphina but a) have forgotten most of it and truly need to reread, and b) Shadow Scale is monstrously huge and I'm trying to cull my tbr atm. xD Resist, Cait, resist.

  19. Ha! That is why I love my Kindle Fire (one of the only reasons); everything I download from Netgalley and Edelweiss I get to keep because they send them to your Kindle email. I neber have to worry about them archieving. Yes, the pineapple pants are infamous in our family.

  20. Sounds like you had a busy week. I hope your new job is going well. I did get a copy of the Seraphina sequel and I am looking forward to it.

  22. Awww, thanks for the shout out! And you totally, totally should. Convert us all into Heidi lovers too! Besides, I don't actually KNOW anyone other than you who has read it, so I'm interested. And The Thirteenth Tale is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE books, and the words are just...beautiful. It's gothic and dark and about books...and just...god the way the words are put together is gorgeous. I hope you like it! (And that the narrator is good). And congrats on the new job!

I am now very curious about the pineapple pants, and I'm not sure what the Harry Potter tribute will be, but you had me at Harry Potter haha!
