TELL ME TUESDAY #26

I have some rather sad news today. My TMT co-host Brittersweet has decided to step up to bigger things, so I am left with this feature on my own. I hope she still drops by for a visit now and then. Having her to call co-host, in comments and blog posts, was a warm fuzzy for me and I will miss that.

Growing this feature was on the top of my 2015 to do list, so I am going to continue to sail on by myself!

So here we go...

TELL ME TUESDAY is a feature that oozed from the fried brains of myself and my best blogging buddy, after a mind twisting Armchair BEA Twitter party.  It is a weekly, or bi-weekly feature (depending on your reading style), where you tell us what you are reading now, and why, and what you will be reading in the future from your tbr pile, and why. I am oh so curious why people read what they read!

Pili, from IN LOVE with HANDMADE is my faithful feature follower and I luff her so much!

Right now I am not reading anything. It seems I have spent every free moment drafting blog posts since the 2014 Top Ten blog hop started on the 22nd of December.

And right now I am also tired because of reading all the review books I needed to wrap up before the end of the year, too. I did get my big Ensnared review I had been working on posted yesterday.

That was a relief.

I still had two more New Year posts sitting unfinished and tardy from last week. I was going to post them tomorrow, but decided it was more important to get a TMT up this week. So, the new plan is my top secret, top book of 2014 review will be on Thursday, and I am scraping the 2014 End of Year Book Survey everyone was doing.

So like Pili always advises, I'm going to shake it off.

I can tell you I am almost certain the first book I will dive into will be Ruin and Rising. I have been waiting forever to read it.

One of my tweet peeps asked me for a fairytale retelling recommendation now that the Splintered trilogy has ended, and I chuckled because the only other book that touches that category that I have read is Wicked. We then started talking about all of the other fairytale retellings Maguire has done, and readers mixed feelings about his body of work, so I have decided to challenge myself to reading ALL of his retellings this year and doing a big author spotlight and review at the end of this year. I am going to dig out my copy of Wicked to re-read and start as soon as possible.

This conversation segued into reading challenges because someone is having a fairytale retelling challenge. I was only planning on doing the usual old Goodreads Challenge and MAYBE the Netgalley Challenge, but no others. However, if my Maguire readings fit the bill I might look into it. I will tell everyone what I decided to do in my The Sunday Post.

What are you reading? Are you going to do any challenges?

I'm going to go have a cookie.

  1. I adoooore you GIFs for this post!! I'm gonna steal the shake it off one! ;)
WICKEEEEED!!! Oh dear I so want to re-read Wicked, it's one of my favourite books (and of course I adoooored the musical) but it's in one box somewhere, so until I can move and start unpacking book boxes, I cannot!

I have signed up for 5 challenges, and one of them, the 105 challenge has 14 different catergories, so I feel I cover loads of stuff with that one alone!

  2. You and Britter are CRAZY!! You two are going to end up sitting under the kitchen table rocking back and forth while sucking your thumbs with that many challenges! I can't even think about it. Maybe it's my age, lol. WICKEEEEEEEEED!! I know, I was shocked to find out a lot of people didn't like it. I think it is a case of them wanting it to read like YA. I wish people would stop reading Adult books and giving them bad reviews because they don't read like YA, and vice versa! I even saw a review the other day that gave one of my favorite Children's books two stars because the book was "childish", um yeah, 'cause it's a CHILDREN'S BOOK!!!!

    1. Yeah, I always feel like shaking that kinda people!!
I know I feel like I might fail at many of the challenges, but I like to push myself on occasions, and when books are concerned I love pushing myself to enjoy new things!

  3. There weren't a lot of the long yearly challenges that appealed to me. Most of them were too simple for what I do for the year. As of right now, my main one is my GoodReads, and along with that one the "You read how many books" which is basically the same as the GoodReads challenge, only for readers who read 150+ a year. My goal is 200, though that's low/average for me. After that, I'm doing the audiobook challenge. I got into audiobooks the end of 2013 and listened to 106 last year, so I'm aiming for over 100 again. That's it right now. I prefer the smaller stuff like the Bingo challenges, which I've joined the New Years Edition one which lasts 3 months. I MAY join in one of the series challenges. The one I wanted to join isn't running again this year, so I am looking to see if I want to join one of the others, to help me with series that I need to wrap up.

Right now, I'm doing BoB and I'm currently listening to Into the Gauntlet ~ the 10th 39 Clues book and for my Kindle book I am reading Lexicon by Max Berry. I'm listening to Gauntlet because I wanted to finish out the first series of 39 Clues during this BoB, and I'm reading Lexicon because it was the book that my hubby picked out for me to read next for BoB.

    1. Phew, I got tired just reading about all those challenges! After the ARC August challenge sucked the life out of me last year, I am hesitant to try any that don't encompass the books I am already i going to read. I have started my audiobook library, but I only have nine books so far and I haven't figured out how our library's audiobook lending system works, yet. Good luck on all of these and thanks for the visit. :)

  4. I may actually create my own challenge. It's a personal thing but everyone else can join if they want to XD It's something that would make me more well-read. It would be the "World Hop Challenge" where the reader will have to read a book translated into English from another country per month. Not sure if it has been done before, but /shrug/ like I said, it's more personal than anything else ;)

    1. Ahhhhh daaaamnnnn. Let's see...I think the first bit was mostly me going yay fairy tale retellings are my fav! And that the only reason I consistently read more high fantasy than fairy tale retellings is that there's simply more high fantasy out there, especially as I've demolished pretty much all of the staples of fairy tale retellings.

And then I talked a lot more about Gregory Maguire, but I'm going to just sum it up
      1. Gregory Maguire is definitely a mixed bag for me
      2. I LOVE Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister - it's my favourite of all his works (although Egg & Spoon was really good too, and all sorts of fun absurd)
      3. I honestly can't remember like...ANYTHING that happened in Wicked. It just left no impact, which seems weird since it's his most famous work. And I've consistently liked each sequel less and less, so I've abandoned the series.
      4. Mirror, Mirror is....interesting. I don't know that I exactly liked it, and I didn't dislike it...it's just...well, interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing what you think on that one!
      5. Overall his writing style seems like it's a you sort of thing and that's pretty consistent across the board (although Confessions is probably his tamest work), so I think you'll at least like the books (especially since it sounds like you enjoyed Wicked?). Or at least I hope that's the case since you're planning on reading them all!

    2. I hate when that happens!!!!!! Last week I wrote a tome on this blog that was discussing that author/Kickstarter kerfuffle and it dumped out just before I finished, TWICE!!!! I only had the heart to type like one paragraph after that and then the blog owner totally misunderstood what I was saying. Lol. Yes, I loved Wicked! It was all about the politics of Oz. After I said I was going to read all of his FT retellings I wanted to kick myself because I really had no idea how many there were. I was relieved there was only one more (Mirror, Mirror) than I already knew about. Phew!
