This should have been a short story. There were some profound observances in this book, but they were diluted by long swaths of dull uninspired blather. I am surprised it was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Many readers have this shelved as Horror on Goodreads, which I don't understand.

Poorly written and the magical system was extremely vague. It also had the usual problems of female characters being written by a male author. He was way off the mark with the mother of young boys characterization. It was definitely a typical father's feelings about parenting boys, not maternal.

This is a wonderful tutorial book that takes you all the way from basic stitches to some fairly intricate work. There are ample images of both step-by-step stitch methods and completed needlework.

There are three volumes left to read until I am all caught up. Volume sixteen was published in April of this year, so it will be a while before seventeen is published. I think I will start the series over while I'm waiting.

I started reading this as a Libby borrow. It wasn't for Witchtember. When I come across a book on Libby I'm interested in, that's not popular, I try to read it as soon as possible because you never know when the library's publisher lease is up and they might not reorder it. I have learned my lesson the hard way before. When I saw the ebook was $1.99 I purchased it because I knew I wanted to re-read it and annotate.

This is Chick Lit which is normally not my cup of tea, but every once in a while I stumble upon one I really like... as I did this one. If you liked Practical Magic you will like this story too. In fact, my thought is this one is better than the Hoffman book. There isn't an overload of romance, and what there was didn't make me roll my eyes once, ha!

I was really liking this book. The premise was fresh and the magic system was unique and then it turned cheesy at the end. It also added a trendy diverse element at the conclusion from out of nowhere. I think it was an easier option for the author than taking the time and energy to develop a proper first in trilogy cliffhanger.

After reading The Witch of Little Italy I thought I had found a replacement for Zionist author Alice Hoffman, who was cheering on Instagram every time Palestinian children and babies, and their mothers were killed in bombings. However, this one really fizzled out in the last quarter. I always feel more disappointed when a book starts out strong and then dumps me on my head near the end, so it ends up at 2½ stars instead of three.

Hoffman ended up scrubbing her IG account of all of her "I Stand With Israel" posts; cheering on the bombings of Palestinian refugee camps, schools, hospitals, and Catholic churches/convents, when promotions for the Practical Magic sequel movie started. However, she never made an apology for her grotesque behavior, so I am assuming she was forced to do so by Warner Bros. Therefore, she is still dead to me. I did not watch the movie, even though I had been over the moon excited about it, and I will never read another book penned by her. I heard the movie tanked at the box office. My DVD of the first movie will be donated to our local homeless shelter's charity thrift store.
