HELLO MARCH - A Year of Brontë - Little House in the Big Woods Buddy Read #Books #Reading #BookBlog #Brontë #LittleHouse #iRead

HELLO MARCH
A YEAR OF BRONTE
LITTLE HOUSE SERIES BUDDY RE-READ

I'm linking up with THE SUNDAY POST hosted by The Caffeinated Reviewer

A YEAR OF BRONTE
In February I tried to get back into reading Tales of Glass Town, Angria, and Gondall, but I couldn't, so I read Poems by Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell instead. I don't care for Victorian poetry, so I didn't rate it on Goodreads, but Emily's was the best of the the three in my opinion.

BRONTES IN FILM
So far I've watched the 1939 version of Wuthering Heights with Merle Oberon and Lawrence Olivier, and I watched the first half of To Walk Invisible the two hour PBS Masterpiece Theater biopic. In true Hoopla fashion the program was split into two one hour segments, so I was only able to watch half because I was out of borrows for the month. My library's Hoopla borrows have gone from eight to five, and now there are only three. I will be watching the other half this month. I was more than a little disappointed with PBS this time around because it's overly dramatic and maybe even sensationalized. I haven't completed reading the biography of Charlotte I started last year, but I don't recall Branwell beating his father all the time and the siblings were depicted as being uncontrollable little monsters when they were children, which I also have not read in Charlotte's biography. The sisters seem to be always whispering to each other in conversation, even when sitting out in the middle of a vast meadow. Ha ha. Both of these movies are available on Hoopla through your library.

I will be starting my semi-annual (I buddy read Villette with Liis last year) re-read of Jane Eyre later this month.

My 1943 Fritz Eichenberg woodcut illustrated edition. It was my holy grail of Jane Eyre books. I am so happy I found one I could afford from Better World Books.

LITTLE HOUSE SERIES RE-READ

LITTLE HOUSE IN THE BIG WOODS
Jolene and I finished Farmer Boy last month and I will hopefully be posting an overview of our buddy read on Saturday. We both made a food from the story and are going to make something mentioned in each book with the help of our Little House Cookbooks. I'll be showing you our finished desserts in the overview. We are also reading the Pioneer Girl autobiography alongside Little House in the Big Woods.

This is my 2017 Harper Collins special edition hardcover. I also have Farmer Boy in this edition and have seen Little House on the Prairie, but none of the others. I wonder if they only made the first three books?

Here is Jolene's book in front of a replica of the Big Woods cabin built near where the original stood. Jolene has been to all the series sites!

What are you reading in March?

  1. You have gotten some beautiful editions of both Jane Eyre and Little House! I have the Little House cookbook on my list at the library. I need to check it out soon and look through it. I'm not sure how much I'll cook out of it but it does look fun. I'm in a bit of a reading low point right now. I'm not loving any of the books I'm reading right. I'm mostly liking them but I'm not loving them. Luckily I'm close to being done with at least two so hopefully I'll move on to something I really enjoy soon.

    1. Please take photos if you make any of the recipes and I'll post them with my overview of the cookbook at the end of the year. I saw a Laura Ingalls Wilder cookbook on the BWB website, but I want to make sure it's not mostly the same recipes before I buy it. Both the Louisa Alcott and this LH cookbook have Boston Brown Bread recipes, so I'm going to make it for Thanksgiving this year because my mother used to make it for the holiday every year. ☺

I hate it when there is a chain of not enjoyable books. That's when I usually read an old favorite guaranteed to please. ☺

  2. Per usual - I have no idea what (or if lol) I'm reading. I'll have to check my Hoopla though and see if my borrows went down. The budget cuts have been ruthless everywhere.

    1. I don't usually get slumps, but reading an old favorite, or an anthology where I can skip over stories I don't care for has helped me in the past. 📖

There is a way to access Hoopla from other libraries in your state. A friend of mine has her Hoopla library set to one that has ten borrows. I keep forgetting to ask her which library it is. ☺

    1. The 1939 movie is okay. I think the next one in the classic movies line up is better. I'm going to be watching that one too. 🎥

    1. I don't have notifications set for my La La in the Library email, so I'll have to go check to see if you emailed again. Thank you for responding. Everyone has breathed a sigh of relief. ♡
