TELL ME TUESDAY #62

TELL ME TUESDAY is a feature that oozed from my post Twitter party fried-brains. It is a weekly, or bi-weekly feature (depending on your reading style), where you tell us what you are reading now, and why, and what you will be reading in the future from your tbr pile, and why. I am oh so curious why people read what they read. So tell me!

Joining us this week...
Shannon from REX ROBOT REVIEWS

Go have a peek at their new grabs and tell them yours!

Yes, I am still reading this Adult Fiction by MARGARET ATWOOD, author of THE HANDMAID'S TALE. It took me 10 days to read the first half of the book. It dragged and it seemed like the torture would never end, and then... at about 55%... the book started filling with GOODNESS. After several highly predictable plot turns, there was an unexpected twist around 52% and then it slid back into tediousness for a bit, but then BAM, it was like a different author took over the writing. STRANGE. Even if it remains wonderful until the end it is still getting a bad rating because no reader should have to wait until past the 50% mark to become invested in a story. I almost DNFed this three different times.

After I read my next ARC due, The Middle Grade RULES FOR STEALING STARS, I am going to tackle...
AN INHERITANCE OF ASHES
The author Leah Bobet is a stuck-up @#$%&!, but her first YA, ABOVE, was magnificent, and I am excited to read this one. She said in an interview that the only reason she wrote ABOVE was to prove Young Adult could be written intelligently (oh excuse us), and she would never (ever) write another YA novel. Never say never, I guess her mother never gave her that bit of advice.

What are you reading? Tell me!

  1. Wow, I didn't know that the author of INHERITANCE OF ASHES said that. Does she really look down on Young Adult fiction that much? I'm sorry, but there are SO many good YAs out there that are deeper or as deep as literary books, and even more, more relatable. I feel more hesitant to read my eARC of her book now. :/

    1. You should still read it because Above was top notch. Her attitude just stinks in general. I used to follow her Facebook page, but 90% of her posts were about how "hip" and wonderful she and her friends are, and gave the feeling she thought most other people are dull and worthless in comparison. She would say things like, "I know most of you won't be able to understand." Ugh.

  2. I hate it when books take too long to get to the good stuff! I just posted my TMT! http://www.rexrobotreviews.com/2015/09/tell-me-tuesday-31.html

  3. I don't think I'll be adding that Atwood to my TBR anytime soon! I definitely don't have the patience to wait to past 50% for the book to get good! I finishing up Nora Roberts' The Liar which I'm enjoying. Her last few books have just been okay but something about this one has really pulled me in.

    1. Yeah, if it hadn't been a review book I would have DNFed it for sure. I tend to give ARCs a little more time. I have not read any Nora Roberts yet. Maybe I will have a look see at The Liar. :)

  4. Omg the author of Ashes said that??!? I'm like...really shocked. And kind of offended. That's a really pretentiously awful thing to say. Gee. Hipster, I guess? Hipsters are the death of me. -_- I get really confused with that cover though because it sooo looks like Six of Crows!
    AHem.
ANYWAY! I'm not reading anything at the moment, actually! I KNOW. *gasps* But I'm writing and I try not to do both because I don't want to accidentally channel the style/tone of what I'm reading into what I'm writing, you know? But when I finish writing I'm going to read A Darker Shade of Magic and Holly Black's Tithe trilogy. :D SO EXCITED.

    1. Yes, VERY HIPSTER! I have a story to tell about something she was talking about on her FB page when I review this second book. The original article she saw about this "thing" (I don't want to give the story away) was in actuality a farce on hipsters and she thought it was a real "thing" and was talking about how she and her friends do this "thing" and they are, so cool, and deep, and undefinable. LOLOLOLOL! And yes, when I first saw the cover of this book on Edelweiss I thought it was Six of Crows and lost my breath, but NOT! I understand your writing hiatus. Your writing should be your priority. And I DID'T KNOW YOU HAD NOT READ ADSOM YET! You are in for a BRILLIANT read!
